Prada and Schiaparelli: Impossible Coversations. Preview

Elsa Schiaparelli  by Man Ray - Miuccia Prada by Guido Harari

A tasty preview of one of the most anticipated fashion exhibitions of 2012 took place in Milan yesterday. The presentation of 'Prada and Schiaparelli: Impossible Conversations' that will open at the MET in New York on May the 10th. The exhibition will put face to face these two not so different women and their designs.
They are both involved into art - Schiaparelli with the Surrealist movement and Dali' and Prada with contemporary art through the Prada Foundation - , they push the boundaries of 'received taste' and defy conformism.

In the interview for the Febraury issue of LOVE magazine - themed 'after taste' - Miuccia has stated that she's interested and drawn to things that she hates, that are ugly and  a dissonance.
Elsa Schiaparelli seems to share this fascination for what is weird, not granted and unexpected - see the lobster dress and her collaboration with Dali' and Wallis Simpson.

This exhibiton, or even just the preview, or even just the pictures and the press features, that people, like me that won't be able to go to NY to see it, are a great way to make fashion relevant and show it under the light of history, society and art and an input to dicover or re-discover a designer like Schiaparelli that may be not very well know to the new generations.
