The Photocopy Club @ Brighton Fashion Week 2012

Just when you thought that digital and printed media were sorting things out, here a project that completely redefines the landscape of photography, in every sense : from post production to printing and display. 

The culprit is The Photocopy Club,a project started not long ago, being the first exhibiton in December 2011, and really, really successfull. 

Basically photographers are asked to submit their work in a photocopy format. Simple. The submissions are then selected and dispayed once a month at the Photocopy Club base, the Create Studios just behing Brighton Station. Visitors can buy any photocopy they like with prices goign from £2 to 6£, with all the proceedings going towards the creation and the pubblication of a book with the best pictures.

For Brighton Fashion Week, the Photocopy Club commissioned 12 photograher to produce sets of pictures just for the fashion week.

Non appena  pensato che i media digitali e quelli cartacei stessero per trovare ognuno la sua dimensione, ecco che spariglia le carte un progetto che ridefinisce il panorama fotografico., in ogni senso:  dalla post produzione alla stampa e al modo di esporla. Il colpevole e' The Photocopy Club, un progetto inziato non molto tempo fa, essendo la prima mostra del dicembre 2011 e molto ma molto di successo.

In pratica fotografi sono chiamati a spedire volontariamente i loro lavori sotto forma di fotocopie. semplice. I set sono quindi selezionati e messi in mostra una volta al mese nella 'casa' del Phtocopy Club, il Create Studio di Brighton, proprio dietro la stazione. I visitatori possono acuistare qualsiai fotocopia gli piaccia ad un prezzo che oscilla tra i £2 ed i £6, con tutto il ricavato utilizzato per la creazione di un libro sul bprogetto con le migliori foto.

In occasione della Brighton Fashion Week, The Photocopy Club ha commissionato a 12 fotografi dei set fotografici ad hoc.

It was really refreshing for the eyes to see fashion pictures in black and white, without any glossy finish and where the photoshop/retouching wasn't evident. Looking at the grainy photocopied texture of pictures made me think of the time of black and white TV and as kid I used my immagination to give colour to the images on the screen. I found myself doing the same in front of of those potocopied pictures and felt really immersed in each of the ones that I stopped to look carefully. I realised that the photocopy format does really work 1) when the fashion element of the pics is not really obvious  2) in portraits  3) male faces stand out and charm more.

E' stata veramente come acqua fresca sul viso vedere foto di moda in bianco e nero, senza stampa lucida ed in cui Photosho/ritocco non fosse troppo evidente. Guardando le texture sgranata delle foto fotocopiate mi ha fatto ripensare ai tempi della Tv in bianco e nero e a come, da ragazino, usavo l'ommaginazione per dare colore alle immagini sullo schermo. Mi sono ritrovato afare la stessa cosa di fronte a quelle immagini fotocopiate che hanno catturato la mia attenzione.Mi sono reso conto che il format fotocopia funziona particolrmente bene  1) con immagini in cui l'elemento moda non sia troppo ovvio  2) con i ritratti  3) i visi maschili risaltano e affascinano piu'di quelli femminili.

Brighton Fashion Week 2012 - Zeitgeist Show

After the theatrical presentations of the Frocks Show on Day 1 at the Brighton Fashion Week, the All Saints Church in Hove was once again the perfect location for the Zeitgeist Show. As the name suggests - spirit of time/age  - the 12 collection showed the several facets of the contemporary fashion scene and the world we live in now. There were young/just graduated fashion designers, established ones that present collections every season, menwear designers and designers that don't follow seasons or trends who through the concept of their collections make a statement about our times.

P.S. Jess Eaton will have a post on her own...so don't get upset if she's not in this post.

Dopo le presentazioni ad alto tasso teatrale del Frocks Show del Giono 1 della Brighton Fashion Week, la chiesa di All Saints ad Hove e' stata nuovamente la location perfetta per il Zeitgeist Show. Come indica il nome - lo spirito del tempo - le 12 collezione hanno mostrato le molteplici sfaccettature della fashion scene contemporanea e del mondo in cui viviamo. C'erano nuovi stilisti appena laureati, stilisti piu' navigati che presentano collezioni ad ogni stagione, stilisti di menwear ed altri ancora che non seguono trend e stagioni che attraverso i concetti delle loro collezioni danno una loro interpretazione dei nostri tempi.

H&M for Water

Today marks the launch for H&M new collection, H&M for Water. This collection is produced in collaboration with WaterAid, an organisation that works to provide safe water, hygiene and sanitation around the world.

Brighton Fashion Week 2012 - Brighton Frocks

Here we go. Day 1 of Brighton Fashion Week just gone with the Frocks Show. As you know I was really looking forward to go and have a first hand experience about this Fashion Week as I heard so much about it and wanted to see how it was compared to London and Rome. And really good it was! From the PR people working there, whisking me off to my seat :-) to the way the catwalk was set and the overall run of the event.

My impression are partial though, as there are going to be two more shows - The Zeitgeist and The Ready to Wear -, so I'll tell you about the Frock Show. 

First things first: the venue. All Saints Church in Hove. A working church, not a disused one. The runway and the audience were right in the central nave of the church :-) Don't know how the two things, fashion and church are related, but it's really good to see that such a place is open to the world.

Eccoci qui. Giorno 1 della Brighton Fashion Week e' andato con il Frocks Show. Come sapete non vedevo l'ora di andarci e di avere esperinza di prima mano di questa Fashion Week,  visto che ne avevo sentito parlare moltissimo e volevo anche vedere com'era a confronto con Londra e Milano. Un'ottima esperienza! A partire dalle PR, che mi hanno accompagnato al mio posto :-) fino al modo in cui la passerella era organizzata e, in generale, come e' gestito l'evento.

Le mie impressioni sono ancora parziali, poiche' ci sono ancora due giornate sfilate - The Zeitgeist e il Ready To Wear -, quindi vi diro' del Frocks Show.

Prima di tutto: la location. All Saint Church ad Hove. Una chiesa funzionante, non in disuso. La passerella e il pubblico erano proprio al centro della navale pricipale :-) Non ho capito come le due cose, moda e chiesa, siano legate, ma e' bello vedere che un luogo del genere e' aperto al mondo.

                       

 The show and the designers. The Frocks Show is not what you'd expect from a catwalk show - models just strutting  up and down the runway -, but each designer and collection is presented in a show format witha theme, theme related music,background video projection and - in some cases - a performance.

I don't want to give too much away here as I'll be reporting about BFW both for Fashion News Magazine (Italy) and Sussex Style Magazine (Uk), but as a stylist I'm going to point out those collection that I believe to be the strongest and be able to do well off the catwalk as well.

Lo show e gli stilisti. Il Frock Show non e' nulla di quelo che ci si aspetta da una sfilata - modelle che vanno su e giu' per la passerella -,ma ogni stilista e collezione sono presentati come uno spettacolo con un tema, musica legata al tema, proiezioni su schermo nello sfondo e  -in acluni casi -una performance.

Non vi voglio svelare troppo qui poiche' parlero' approfonditamente della BFW sia su Fashion News Magazine (Italia) che su Sussex Style Magazine (Uk), ma come stylist indichero' quelle collezione e quegli stilisti che credo siano i 'migliori' e che ce la possano fare anche giu' dalla passerella.

After two posts about my latest styling project for China Doll Boutique, I'm really happy to show you the final pictures. I'm really pleased with them. I LOVE them. Ailera, the photographer is really talented and I really love her style and the use of only natural ligh. There are a lot of pictures I could show you, so I picked just one for each look - and there are more than 20!

Dopo due post sul mio ultimo progetto di styling per China Doll Boutique, sono veramente contento di potervi finalmente mostrare le foto. Mi piacciono tantissimo. Le ADORO. Ailera, la fotografa e' veramente piena di talento e mi piace il suo stile e l'uso della sole luce naturale. Ci sono moltissime foto che vi potrei mostrare, quindi ne ho scelta una per ogni look - e ce ne sono piu' di 20!

Wedding Dress Low Cost - Topshop Richard Nicoll collaboration

It was just a matter of time before fast fashion would reclaim a slice on the wedding dresses market. To my knowledge, there have always been not expensive ways of sourcing a wedding dress, especcially if you're not marrying in a church - my sister did in Semptember 2011 wearing a €200 Zara evening dress.

This time round tough, Topshop teamed up with the London Fashion Week designer Richard Nicoll for a limited piece bridal collection, priced between £75 and £350, availble, from June the 15th online, Oxford Circus store, Selfridges and Brompton Road stores.

I have to say that it's hard to judge how good, or not they look, as a wedding outfit it's not complete without hair, make-up, shoes and jewellery. So while my first impression on the designs it's not too positive - as the dresses look pretty but not specifically bridal -, I have to say that they could be good bridal dresses if styled carefully. They look great though as summer/evening dresses as they are, without any doubt elegant and cool.

Era solo una questione di tempo prima che anche la moda 'fast' reclamasse la sua fetta di mercato nell'abbigliamento da sposa. per quanto ne sappia io, ci sono sempre stati modi di trovare abiti per sposarsi senza spendere migliaia di euro - mia sorella, nel settembre 2011, si e' sposata in un abito da sera di Zara da €200.

Questa volta pero', Topshop si e' organizzato con lo stilista Richard Nicoll nel creare una linea (con pezzi limitati) di abiti da sposa, con prezzi che vanno dai £75 ai £350, disponibile, dal 15 giugno, online, nello store di Oxford Circus, da Selfridges e nei negozi di Brompton Road.

Devo dire che e' complicato giudicare se i capi siano buoni, o meno, visto che un outfit da sposa non e' completo senza trucco-parrucco, scarpe e gioielli. Mentre la mia prima impressione sul design non e' molto positiva - poiche' gli abiti sono carini ma non hanno nulla di specifico che li renda da sposa -, devo dire che potrebbero essere delle ottime scelte se lo styling vinen fatto con attenzione. Tuttavia i capi sono ottimi come abiti da sera estivi, senza dubbio eleganti e informali.
