Self styling (!!)

As a respectable, but still amateur, fashion blogger I thought it would be convenient to post a selection of self styled pics.
Nothing special, just my first, shy attempt to cath my style vison on camera.

I'm wearing simple clothes - H&M kaky shorts&Panama hat, Brook's Converse-like trainers, a stripey sky-blue fitted shirt for outfit 1, and camouflage 2nd hand trousers ( 2 Euros!), NaraCamicie black waistcoat and Carrera sunglasses for outfit 2.

2 Different Tears!

ALEJANDRO!!

Stay tuned though, because in 2 days I'm having a kind of proper photo shooting session with 3 looks _ '80, nerdy and military _ LOL! We'll see what comes out of it and I ll show the pics asap!

Angels and Demons.

Last night, as I was browsing through a bunch of digital pics of myself, I came across the following ones - which I obviously remembered - but never linked to Alexander McQueen F/W 2010/'11 collection Angels and Demons.
Only the them is similar, nor the beauty or the intention and mood behind the shoots. Nevertheless, I was struck by the coincidence of having thought about, and done, those pics in April 2009, and that stricking outfits.
That's all. It's just my humble and naive tribute to Alexander.

R.I.P. and you'll always be a great source of inspiration for the fashion industry.

Wonder Girls - Wonder Style!!

Are you familiar with Lim, Sohee, Sun, Yenny and Yubin? Ever heard of the Wonder Girls?
K-pop icons and, it's the reason I'm writing about them on this bog, style mavericks? If not, here there is a brief up to date account about them.

  • First Koean group to make it in the American Billboard chart, with the 2009 single 'Nobody' (76th place).

  • Dreamgirls inspired look for 'Nobody'

  • Supporting act for the Jonas Brother's U.S. tour last summer.

  • Touring the U.S and Canada with their first world tour with the funky/retro song ' 2 Different Tears ' ( 2DT) , that came out in 3 langauges (English, Korean and Chinese).

Taking for granted that K-pop songs are catchy and well written, that Korean singers are true performers ( their singing and dancing skills are far better than the average Western pop sensation), the Wonder Girls, since their debut in Korea, in February 2007, have always stood out from the multitude of K-pop artists, and are successful abroad, because of their unique sense of fun, their smart, girly femininity, and, as they define it, their hip, funky style!

Their latest MV look (see below - picture and MV) has to be taken into consideration as the perfect mix of seasonal colours (turquoise, lime, sunshine, sea and navy blue ), garments (two colour shiny stockings, leggings, sheer rib, short sleeve tunics) and shoes (wedges, platforms and -they're back!- Doc. Martens).

And, last but not least, the girls take a really fresh and personal approach to the style of the '80,
both wearing tailored denim little dresses, tops, shorts and skirts, and a very exact mish-mash of pop colours.

From left to right: Yenny, Sun, Sohee, Yubin, Lim.

Check out Yenny stockings, Sun wedges&leggings, Sohee floral DM, Yubin tunic&pink DM and Lim platforms!

So, look out for the Wonder Girls on youtube and we'll keep following their music and looks.

For the time being...Wonder Girls FIGHTING!!

Mesdames, Messieurs: Haute Couture!!

Soon after the curtain had closed over the prêt-à-porter shows, Paris gave us the wonder of wonders: Haute Couture F/W 2010/2011. And we, humble fashion followers, could only rub our eyes in seeing so much beauty on display, thanks to Their Highnesses such as Lagerfeld, Valentino, Armani and above all Galliano for Dior.

Just few words to give you an overview of the show and then the pictures will speak for themselves.

Location: a room of Musèe Rodin. Scenography: stems, leaves and petals tower over a total white background that some journalists described as Galliano's' little shop of horrors (!). To my eyes instead, it looked like a scene from Alice in Wonderland with those singing, merry flowers that she meets following the White Rabbit.

FLOWER POWER, IN FULL EFFECT!

And Galliano too conjures up wonders and makes us dream with wide volumes on the waist and neck line, bright colours, gaudy combinations and refined tailoring.

I do agree with Franca Sozzani then, in saying, well...screaming: " COUTURE? YES!"

In fact, thanks to Haute Couture, not only can we, ordinary fashion addicts, dream and be inspired, but above all research can carry on as well - into fabrics, prints, new shapes, colours and styles - and into tailoring skills and creativity that give 'sap' ( just to remain with botanics) to prêt-à-porter .
