Here we go again. Back to writing on this blog after four months of a busy, busy time on the off line world – new role in the Partnership basically with all that it entails. I’ve struggled to keep up with my fashion news, fashion weeks and writing about it even though I kept reading about it and reviewing LFW as a UK Fashion Correspondent for Fashion News Magazine – in Italian, 160 articles so far ;-)

I now feel much more settled in my new role as a Retail Training Specialist and I’m back to giving my point of view on all things fashion. In English. Yep. I regularly floated between writing in Italian or English or a mix of both (hard work!) but I have finally realised, after more 10 years of blogging, and 10 years in the UK it, I have an English-speaking audience that would miss out if I don’t do that. So sorry Italian friends. If you can’t read English well but are still interested in my posts, I usually post lots of pictures and videos and you can use Google translate for help. :-(

Also, all of the above is a true reflection of who I am. An Italian (Roman) living and working in England, interested in both cultures and both fashion worlds. That’s why most of the past posts are about Roma Fashion Week – yes, there is one in Rome! – but also anecdotes and reflections on London Fashion Week that I have been regularly attending since 2011.

Back on track as well as I’ve just received accreditations for the upcoming LFW June 11^th/13^th and going to tell you about the February 2022 Roma Fashion Week edition and the upcoming July one.  So...more content coming your way on this platform soon...

Creativita' Italiana alla London Fashion Week A/I 20

Ricomincia il 'carosello delle settimane della moda' e dopo New York - in corso - tocchera' a Londra mostrare cosa ha in serbo per l' A/I 20. Quest'edizione sono particolarmente contento di aver trovato in calendario due brand emergenti italiani: Caterina Moro e Ice Surface Temperature. Che sia l'inizio di un nuovo corso in cui chi merita viene sostenuto dal sistema e dalle istituzioni? Per ora sembra di si, visto che ambedue provengono da progetti sostenuti dall'ICE - lo Showcase di AltaRoma per Caterina Moro e il Pitti Immagine Tutorship Programme per IST; a dimostrare come tali iniziative, unite ad una rigorosa selezione attenta all qualita' dei brand, danno i loro frutti.

Sono inoltre particolrmente soddisfatto di vedere i semi che AltaRoma pianta di stagione in stagione, germogliare piano piano. Caroselli ed elogi a parte, ecco una breve panoramica dei due marchi.

Durante AltaRoma non ho avuto occasione di fermarmi allo stand di Caterina Moro, che ha lanciato l'omonimo brand nel 2017 e che esordisce quest'anno con la sua prima collezione. Romana, laureata in Musicologia e Beni Culturali con un Master in Haute Couture, il suo stile minimal e' caratterizzato da lavorazioni demi-couture, in cui precise sonol'attenzione ai materiali e alle lavorazioni - il plisse' declinato su denim, lurex e pelle. Le immagini del lookbook danno una buona idea  dell'eccelente lavoro di Caterina Moro, ma approfittero' dell'occasione di averla a londra, al Designer Showroom la prossima settimana, per vedere la collezione da vicino e conoscerla personalmente.

Estetica di segno opposto quella di Ice Surface Temperature, marchio dei due fratelli Kristian e Laura Guerra, provenienti da esperienze al Pitti Immagini, come detto e all'International Talents Support di Trieste in cui hanno vinto. A Londra faranno parte dell'International Fashion Showcase, evento in cui 16 nuovi brand internazionali, selezionati dal British fashion Council e il British Fashion Council, mostreranno le loro collezioni sotto forma di installazioni. Il marchio esplorera' il ruolo che l'outfit ha come linguaggio non-verbale in contesti urbani ed in particolare in luoghi in cui le interazioni sono veloci - la stada, le stazioni, etc... 

Un altra occasione per vedere il loro lavoro da vicino ed essere partecipe di questa rinnovata presenza della creativita' italiana a Londra.

London Fashion Week Diaries. SS18

Il girone delle settimane della moda e' quasi al termine al ritmo delle dirette e delle stories di Instagram. Essendomi messo l'anima in pace con il fatto di non poter competere in velocita' nel dare il mio punto di vista con chi lo fa 24/7 e come primo lavoro,  posso pero', con i miei tempi, ripescare marchi, fatti ed eventi che i nostri feed globali hanno ingurgitato e dimenticato, con  con l'obiettivo di approfondirli brevemente.

L'immagine di apertura, a parte il mio collage molto 'fai-da-te', apparentemente non ha alcun legame con la settiomana della moda, ma non e' cosi'; Rihanna, a Londra in occasione del lancio della linea beauty Fenty, durante la LFW, ha indossato un abito Molly Goddard. Conosciuta solo da chi la segue dal suo esordio nel 2015, me compreso, finalmente il marchio, che ha gia' un discreto successo commerciale, comincia ad avere anche quell'esposizione mediatica che lo fara' crescere ancora di piu', oltre ad essere riconosciuto anche dai non addetti ai lavori.

London Fashion Week FW17. Diario Personale.

Tre settimane dopo la fine della LFW FW17 e finta la maratona del mese della moda, mi ritrovo nuovamente a riflettere sulle sfilate e presentazioni viste e sull'energia di un week end intenso speso a Londra. Questa volta una coincidenza ha voluto che non solo avessi il sabato e la domenica a disposizione ma anche un albergo prenotato, il che ha reso la 'scarpinata' piu' fattibile del solito.

Come gia'accaduto per la moda uomo anche questa volta, non solo non mi e' stato possibile recensire tutto quello che ho visto - di cui scrivo per Fashion News Magazine - ma quello che mi rimane sono delle fantastiche e positive impressioni personali  legate sia alla qualita' delle collezioni che alle location in cui ogni volta mi meraviglio di trovarmi.

Entrero' nel dettaglio di cio' che ho visto con dei post dedicati poiche' queste brevi righe sono l'ennesimo elogio all'unicita' della settimana della moda e del potere che ha di far riunire ed incontrare persone che hanno le stesse passioni e svolgono lo stesso lavoro e fargli vivere allo stesso tempo un'esperienza personale gratificante e coinvolgente. Ovviamente parlo in primis per me stesso ma sono sicuro che, al di la' del freddo, la fame e la mancanza di sonno, chiunque partecipi a Milano, Londra, Parigi o New York alla Fashion Week torni poi alla routine quotidiana piu' stimolato ed arricchito di prima.

Molly Goddard ft. Red Velvet

You know by now how interested and glad I am at the moment about a fresh crop of British designers that in the past two seasons have successfully emerged and took presentations to the next level. Molly Goddard is one of those and finally her work,appreciated in the UK and stocked internationally, is is becoming more and more visible, not only to the fashion insiders. I'm referring to two of her SS16 dresses being used in the latest Red Velvet MV 'One of These Nights': the big deal here is that this K-pop group is really popular in Korea but above all internationally as most of the Hallyu idols. 

Ormai sapete quanto sia interessato e contento che ultimamente una nuova generazione di designer inglesi siano emersi con successo e alzato il livello delle presententazioni nelle ultime due stagioni. Molly Goddard e' uno di loro e finalmente il suo lavoro, apprezzato in Inghilterra e venduto internazionalmente, sta divenendo sempre piu' visible, non solo a chi si occupa di moda. Mi riferisco a due suoi abiti della collezione SS16  usati nell'ultimo video delle Red Velvet 'One of These Nights': la notizia qui e' che le RV sono molto famose in Corea e sopratutto internazionalmente come la maggior parte degli 'idol' Hallyu.

LFW AW16 Presentations.Part 1. Edeline Lee, Goergia Hardinge, Gabriel Vielma.

I'm (not) sorry I keep going on about the latest wave of presentations at the LFW AW16 but this medium got so sophisticated by now that it's impossible to ignore and worth being covered properly as nearly 40% of the designer on schedule hosted a presentation.

Edeline Lee focused her creative energy on simplicity and integrity, presenting a pared down collection, going back to the basics in her silhouette, colour palette and use of fabric. The presentation was held at the ONlOFF Vinyl Factory where the looks and the models were placed a playful, simple but eye catching installation of black and white floor, mirrors and coloured piles of shredded paper. 

Virgin Wool crepe and boucle are used for utilitarian boiler suits, tops, trousers and dresses and for stunning, cosy outerwear. The only concession to print is a delicate floral pattern that occasionally become 3D flowers.

The Art of the Presentation. London Fashion Week AW16

Three Floor presentation

I had a pretty busy day at LFW yesterday and the odd surprise was that it was a day full of presentations. I attended 4 of them and I could have done 2 more but I had to be back in Brighton for a wedding reception. Sadly I also missed the House of Holland show for which I had a ticket for the first time ever! Got home really pleased with the day and attending presentations ended up being much more enjoyable, fun, less tiring and stress free than the shows.

I did some research and this season, out of the 84 designers on the schedule, 32 are hosting presentations; that's nearly 40% - 38 to be precise. Even WGSN - the forecasting company - picked on that calling presentations 'the new runway'.

Ieri ho avuto una giornata piena alla LFW e la strana sorpresa e' stato un giorno pieno di presentazioni. Ne ho viste 4 e avrei potuto andre ad altre 2 ma sono divuto tornare a Brighton per un matrimonio la sera. Inoltre ho anche saltato la sfilata di House of Holland per la quale avevo ricevuto il primo invito di sempre! Sono comunque tornato a casa soddisfatto e andare solo alle presentazioni e stato piu' piacevole e divertente, meno stancante e stressante delle sfilate.

Ho fatto un po' di ricerca e questa stagione, su 84 designer in programma, 32 fanno una presentazione: quasi il 40% - 38 per la precisione. Persino  WGSN - l'agenzia di forecasting - se n'e' accorta chiamando le presentazione 'la nuova sfilata'

LFW New Designers: Faustine Steinmetz

Faustine Steinmetz completes the triad of new emerging designers that I picked up on the latest LFW season, together with Danielle Romeril and Molly Goddard, with whom she's just been nominated for the upcoming British Fashion Awards as Emerging Womenswear Designer.

What makes Steinmetz stand out from her fellow new designers is her unique take on garments production and crystal clear vision of what her brand stands for.
Her focus is on creating mass produced garments using hand-craft techniques, craftsmanship wins over trends and every process is manual: hand-weaving, hand-dying, hand-knitting, hand-embroidery, hand-painting.

Faustine Steinmetz completa la triade dei designer emergenti che ho adocchiato durante l'ultima edizione della LFW, assieme a Danielle Romeril e Molly Goddard, con la quale condivide la nomination ai prossimi British Fashion Awards nella categoria Emerging Womenswear Designer.
Cio' che distingue la Steinmetz dagli altri giovani stilisti e' l'unicita' del suo approccio alla produzione dei capi e una visione cristallina dei valori che il suo brand rappresenta.
Il suo punto di forza e' la creazione di abbigliamento di massa usando le tecniche del fatto a mano, l'artigianalita' vince sulle tendenze e ogni processo e' manuale; la tessitura, la tintura, la maglieria, i ricami,

LFW New Designers: Molly Goddard

I included Molly Goddard in my LFW SS16 10 best looks and told you that I'd write specifically about her in a later post. Here it is with perfect timing, as she is one of the nominees at the British Fashion Awards 2015 in the Emerging Womenswear Designer category. She's also the second of the three new designers that I'm writing about, together with Danielle Romeril and Faustine Steinmetz, who's a nominee in the same category too.

The picture above doesn't scream fashion in the usual way and such a ''charming awkwardeness'' - quoting Goddard's description of her style - is what makes her collections and overall inspiration stand out; a fresh, down to earth approach to clothes and a simple way to show how wearable they are. The SS 16 collection was in the form of a presentation where models where working in a sandwich factory, wearing party pretty party dresses, looking grumpy and bored as if they just got from a party or were ready to rush to one after their shift.

Ho incluso Molly Goddard nei 10 migliori look della LFW SS16 e vi ho promesso che avrei scritto di lei in un post successivo. Eccolo qui con tempismo prefetto visto che e' una delle nominate ai British Fashion Awards 2015 nella categoria Emerging Womenswear Designer. E' anche la seconda delle tre stiliste che ston approfondendo sul blog, con Danielle Romeril e Faustine Steinmetz, anche lei con una nomination nella stessa categoria.

L'immagine qui sopra non grida moda come ci si aspetta e questa '' affascinante stranezza'' - citando la descrizione del suo stile della Goddard - e' cio' che fa emergere su tutti le sue collezioni e la sua ispirazione; un approccio con i piedi per terra, fresco e un modo semplice di mostrare gli abiti e di come siano facili da indossare.

La collezione SS16 e' stata una presentazione in cui le modelle lavoravano in un'azienda che produce sandwich, indossando dei party dress con un'espressione annoiata e arrabbiata come se fossero appena tornate da una festa o fossero pronte ad andarci, dopo il turno di lavoro.

LFW New Designers. Danielle Romeril SS16. Paradise Lost

As promised a couple of weeks ago, charting the 10 LFW SS16 best looks , I'm going to focus in this post on one of the three emerging designers that showed her collection on the main schedule: Danielle Romeril. As her name and her namesake brand is totally new to me I had to do some research into them and that lead me into an interesting journey through her African inspiration for the SS16 collection.

Come promesso un paio di settimane fa, facendo la classifica dei migliori 10 look della LFW SS16, in questo post approfondiro' una delle tre stiliste emergenti nel calendario ufficiale; Danielle Romeril. poiche' sia il suo nome che il brand mi sono totalmente nuovi ho fatto un po' di ricerca che mi ha portato a 'viaggiare' in Africa attraverso l'ispirazione della sua la collezione SS16.

London Fashion Week SS16. 10 Best Looks.

LFW has just finished and I'm not going to write any review of the shows, all of them are already on line but I've rounded up the 10 best looks that I saw on the runway. This season I didn't get involved as much as I wanted both because I was away on holiday ( South of France!!) and because when I had the chance to go to show/presentation I decided to be a responsible grown, stay at home and deal with a bathroom 'crisis' 

( no toilette, shower, basin for a day and then thick dust everywhere!). I followed the show everyday though as I daily rounded up the best 5 looks for FashionNewsMagazine on Facebook and posted a review ( in Italian about the whole season). Some of the designers are established ones that I particularly love, others are emerging designers ( Romeril, Steinmetz and Goddard) whom I 'll talk about in an another post

LFW e' appena finita e non scrivero' alcuna recensone visti che tutte sono gia' online ma ho raccolto i migliori 10 look che ho visto in passerella. Questa stagione non ho potuto partecipare attivamente all'evento come avrei voluto, sia perche' ero in vacanza ( Sud della Francia!) e sia perche' ho deciso di fare l'adulto, rimanere a casa e far fornte all 'crisi' bagno (senza toilette, doccia e lavabo per un giorno intero oltre a stati di polvere e calcinacci dappertutto!). Ho comunque seguito le sfilate online ogni giorno e ogni mattina ho postatop i migliori 5 look sulla pagina Facebook di FashionNewsMagazine e ho postato una panoramica sulla manifestazione. Alcuni degli stilisti sono affermati e mi piacciono particolarmente, altri sono emergenti ( Romeril, Steinmetz e Goddard) di cui vi parlero' in un prossimo post.

Great Events and Great Projects: Miss Precious 2014 and So Vain Books.

Due idee, due progetti, due persone e due citta' ( Roma e Oxford/Londra) dietro Miss Precious 2014 e So Vain Books. I progetti e gli eventi che li hanno lanciati non sono accomunati tra loro, ma ve ne parlo perche' personalmente conosco sia Marco Calisse di Miss Precious e Stephanie Reed di So Vain Books .

Due progetti innovativi, al passo coi tempi, aggiungo io; l'uno e' un concorso di bellzza che non solo promuove modelle belle, ma sopratutto di una bellezza sana e tutto tondo, l'altro e' una nuova casa editrici che si concentra sulla produzione e pubblicazione di titoli fashion, di lifestyle, agganciati al mondo dei fashion e beauty bloggers. Vediamoli nello specifico.

Two ideas, two projects, three people and due cities ( Rome and Oxford/London) behind Miss Precious 2014 and So Vain Books. The projects and the vents that launched them are not related but I'm writing about them because I  personally know both Marco Calisse of Miss Precious and Stephanie Reed of So Vain Books.

Two innovative projects, and I add, up to date with our times;one is a beauty contest that non only looks for beautiful girls, but healthy ones too, all in one 'package', the other is a publishing company that focuses on fashion and lifestyle books, linked to fashion and beauty bloggers. Let's find out what they are about.

Miss Precious 2014

Il 2 Marzo non solo e' stata eletta la nuova Miss Precious 2014 Selene Obambi, ma l'evento e' stata anche piattaforma di lancio per stilisti che hanno vestito le modelle non solo in paserella ma anche negli shooting fotografici, fase preliminare del concorso. Infatti sono stati premiati  dalla giuria, composta da bloggers, stylists e presieduta da Valeria Mangani, vicepresidente di AltaRoma, anche la fotografa Snej Shan ed il designer Kyte_VinceEtKyte. I tre collaboreranno assieme per la realizzazione di un lookbook della collezione Kyte.

On March the 2nd not only Miss Precious 2014, Selene Obambi, was elected, but the vent was also the platform to showcase the designers that lent their collection to the models on the catwalk and on the shootings that were the preliminary phase of the contest. In fact the jury, headed by Valeria Mangani, deputy CEO of AltaRoma, and formed by bloggers and stylists, awarded also the photographer Snej Shan and the designer Kyte_ VinceEtKyte. Those three will work together for the Kyte collection lookbook

So Vain Books

Il 18 febbraio invece, in coincidenza con la chiusura della London Fashion Week e' stata ufficialmente lanciata So Vain Books ed il relativo blog. La 'mission' di questa casa editrice indipendente e' quella di pubblicare libri e magazine per un pubblico femminile ed interssato al mondo della moda. Per questo bloggers e youtubers saranno gli autori chiamati in causa e selezionati per la produzione di titoli ad hoc.

Collaboro con So Vain Magazine, il fratello di So Vain Books, da due anni, come menswear fashion editor, e l'idea di So Vain Books e' un'estensione che ci voleva nel mondo dell'editoria. Bisogna infatti essere multi-channel, non solo online ma anche su carta stampata, e So Vain Books va inoltre ad esplorare e sviluppare un abito editoriale ancora nuovo. In bocca al lupo So Vain Books e attendo il primo titolo!

On Febraury the 18th instead, on the closing day of London Fashion Week So Vain Books and its blog were officially launched. The 'mission' of this indie publishing house is to create books and magazines for a female audience and interested in fashion. So bloggers and youtubers will be handpicked to created titles that fits this idea.

I've been working with So Vain Magazine, the brother of So Vain Books, for two years now as menswear fashion editor, and the idea of So Vain Books is an extension that was needed in the publishing landscape. In fact these days companies need to be multi-channel, not only online but in printed form too, and So Vain Books is going to explore and develop a fairly new editorial genre. So I wish good luck to So Vain Books and looking forward to seeing their first ever title!

London Fashion Week Aw 14. Appunti Sparsi. Random Notes

Appunti sparsi di una giornata alla LFW, meta' programmata e meta' improvvisata! Partito come inviato per GlamJam Magazine con l'occhio rivoto ai nuovi designers e due presentazioni a cui ero accreditato - Edeline Lee e Wolf and Bager al Savoy Hotel - ; mi sono ritrovato poi a riuscire ad avere un pass come Uk Press come giornalista di So Vain Magazine, per il quale sono menswear editor, e di conseguenza potermi fare il giro dei Designer Showrooms e reperire materiale per questo blog! Giornata schizofrenica direi; identita' multiple e a lavoro per magazine multipli.

Vi metto quindi foto ed impressioni di questa mia giornata multi-sfaccettata.

Random notes of a day at the LFW, half planned and half decided on the spot! I went as a fashion correspondent for GlamJam Magazine with eyes focused of new designers and two presentations for which I had been accredited - Edeline Lee and Wolf and Badger at the Savoy Hotel- ; I found myself then able to get a press pass as Uk Press for So Vain Magazine, for which I'm menswear editor, and therefore have a look around the Designer Showrooms and get material for this blog! Schizophrenic day I' say; multiple identities and at for for multiple magazines.

Edeline Lee+ Wolf And Badger

Di queste due presentazioni ne scrivero' in maniera approfondita su GlamJam. Vi dico soltanto che la presentazione collezione AW14 di Edeline Lee, ispirata alle sue fantasie da teenager su come fosse New York e l'energia di East London, ha catturato benissimo il mood giovane e fresco da cui la stilista Canadese/Coreana ha preso spunto. Tre stanze con tre diverse ambientazioni: manichini con collezione, modelle che stavano girando un fashion film per Style.com e photoshhot del lookbook in ultimo! Inoltre ho incrociato Hamish Bowles di Vogue Usa che, personalmente scortato dalla designer, stava visonando la collezione. 

Bella e buona la presetazione di Wolf and Badger, un ibrido tra boutique e agenzia di pr, che nella Sala Lncoln del Savoy Hotel, ha presentato tutti i brand per che rappresenta e che vende. Clou dell'evento? Le gustose e colorate meringhe che hanno catturato la mia attenzione piu' degli accessori e delle collezioni presenti.

I'll write properly about these two presentations on Glam Jam. Just want to say that the presentation of the AW14 collection of Edeline Lee, inspired by her teenage dream of New York and the energy of West London, captured really well the young and refreshing mood that the Canadian/Korean designer used as a starting point. Three rooms for three different ambients: mannequins wearing the collection, models shooting a fashion video for Style.com and a lookbook photoshoot. I also met Hamish Bowles of Vogue Us who, personally escorted by the designer, was having a look at the collection.

Professionally done and tasty the Wolf and Badger presentation, that is an hybrid company, part boutique and part pr agency, that in the Lincoln Room of the Savoy Hotel, showed all the designers that it stocks. The best bit? The yummy and colourful merengues that caught my eye more than the accessories or the collections on show.

Designer Showrooms

Decine e decine di brand di accessori e abiti nelle Designer Showrooms ma, ahime' solo due mi hanno veramente interessato e catturato: le borse di Hemsley London ed i cappelli di Stephen Jones.

Tens and tens of accessories and clothing brands at the Designers Showrooms but, alas only two really captured my attention and interested me; the Hemsley London bags and the Stephen Jones hats.

I'm going to write about them as well on Glam; the pictures speak for themselves anyway.
