Prada, Chanel S/S 14 e la Magia di Vogue.

Come sapete ho un rapporto di amore/odio con Vogue: dipende da quale edizione agguanto, fondamentalmente. Spesso British Vogue mi lascia deluso, a volte no; quando invece metto le mani su Vogue Paris o Vogue Spain vado in brodo di giuggiole (quello Vogue Italia lo adoro sempre!). Per il 2014, visto che mi sono stufato di spendere soldi per un Vogue (quello britannico che non mi piace), mi sono fatto regalare un abbonamento annuale, cosi' rimango aggiornato e (deluso) ma non lo compro. Ha!

Numero di Marzo. Sorpresa! Appena aperto Vogue ha fatto la magia e mi ha lasciato a bocca aperta nelle primissime pagine con la campagna S/S14 di Prada e di Chanel. Certo, non sono il conetenuto editoriale del numero (su questo sorvoliamo) ma sono comunque gratissimo di poter vedere queste immagini su carta, iunvece che online e, vi assicuro, che la differenza e' abissale! Sono un rgagazzo felice ora!

As you know I have a love/hate relationship with Vogue: it all depends on which edition I pick, basically. Often I get disappointed in British Vogue, sometimes not ; but when I put my hands on Vogue Paris or Vogue Spain then I go into raptures ( I always love Italian Vogue!). For 2014, as I'm fed up with wasting money for a Vogue ( the British one) that I don't like, I've got a subscription to it as a Christmas present, so I do stay informed (and disappointed) but at least I'm not spending money on it. Ha!

March Issue! Surprise!  As I opened it Vogue worked its magic and left me speechless with  the very first pages in which there were the Prada and Chanel S/S 14 campaigns. I know, they're not editorial content b ( let's not comment on that) but I'm really grateful alla the same to be able to see these picture on paper rather than online and , I swear, the difference is abysmal!

Marc Jacobs for Diet Coke and me!

My collection of Marc Jacob's related knick knacks has just grown! Infact I just received a parcel - from Selfridges - with the three Diets Cokes that Marc Jacobs designed to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the drink. Each bottle is designed and inspired by a decade; (from left to right) the '80, the '90 and the '00.

La mia collezione di 'cianfrusaglie' firmate Marc Jacobs e' appena cresciuta! Infatti ho mi e' arrivato un pacchetto - da Selfridges! - con le tre Diet Coke che Marc Jacobs ha disegnato per celebrare in 30 anni della bevanda. Ogni bottiglia e' diseganta e ispirata ad un decennio: (da sinistra a destra) gli anni '80, i '90 ed il millennio.

Marc Jacobs: the Sun and the Prada effect.

Nel post di ieri sulla NYFW vi ho presentato una veloce carrellata di outfit di alcune collezioni; un 'Pick 'n Mix' fatto apposta, una strategia per cercare di trovare qualcosa di interessante :-( Come ogni stagione aspettavo che sfilasse Marc Jacobs - la cui collezione Marc di Marc Jacobs, anche se non entusiasmante al 100%, e' stata comunque divertente e una bella rilettura degli anni '70.

La collezione della linea principale? Un piccolo shock; per molteplici motivi.

Prima di tutto per il fatto che piu' che seguire un tema o un'idea, il filo conduttore degli outfit e' un mood, un sentimento. Un sentimento malinconico, nostalgico, quasi dark, sottolineato da un grande sole arancione ( che tramonta? che sorge?) ispirato dall'istallazione di Olafur Eliasson di qualche anno fa.

In my last post about NYFW I presented a quick selection of few outfits from some collections; a 'Pick 'n Mix' I did on pourpose, a strategy to try to find something interesting :-( Every season I wait for Marc Jacobs to show - whose Marc by Marc Jacobs collection, even if not 100% thrilling, it was fun a great reworking of the 1970's.

The main collection? A little shock; for several reasons.

First of all, instead of following a them or an idea, the outfits' file rouge was a mood, a sentiment. A melancholic, nostalgic one, almost dark, underlined by the big orange sun ( that was setting? or rising?) inspired by Olafur Ellisson's installation of few years ago.

Inoltre la collezione, proprio perche' veicola uno stato d'animo, e' difficile da 'leggere' al primo impatto e bisogna guardarla e riguardarla; e qui scatta l'effetto Prada. Non solo infatti e' possibile vedere come non mai l'influenza di Miuccia su Jacobs, ma look dopo look non sapevo se stavo guardando una sfilata (gia' vista) Miu Miu - e' il look sulla destra - o Marc Jacobs oltre a ritrovarmi a dover fare cio' che si fa dopo una sfilata Prada: prendere tempo, riflettere, guardare e riguardare e poi apprezzare. Sto aspettando che esca il video della sfilata per apprezzare meglio cio' che gia' e' disponibile in foto, poiche' sulla recensione di Style.com ho letto che le modelle hanno sfilato due volte; la prima con il sole che rendeva gli abiti un po' tutti uguali e monotoni, e la seconda con un sole dal bagliore piu' intenso che rivelava le diverse textures e colori degli outfit, in un esplosione di sfumature cangianti e bagliori metallici.

Then the collection, mainly because it communicates a mood, it's difficult to 'read' at first sight and you need to look at it over and over; here the Prada effect kicks in. It's possible, in fact, not only to see really clearly Miuccia's influence on Jacobs, but look after look I didn't know if I was watching (an already seen) Miu Miu show - that's the look on the right in the opening pic - or a Marc Jacobs one but I had to do what you do after a Prada show: take your time, reflect, watch the show over and over and then like it. I'm waiting to see the show on video to appreciate better what's in pictures, because on the Style.com review of the show, i read that the models paraded twice on the catwalk; the first time with the sun that made them look all the same an flat, the second with the sun much more bright that revealed the different textures and colours, on an explosion of iridescent hues and metallic glares

 

New York Fashion Week S/S 13 Selection

I'm not the best of journalists/fashion writers commentators so I won't bore you with comments and descriptions of any fashion show. You can actually read really good ones on British Vogue  that this season really stepped up its game with fashion show covering. What I can do though is to point my favourite collections and add some briefs comments. I picked up three designers from the new York shows.

Non sono il piu' dotato dei giornalisti/commentatori di moda quindi non vi annoiero' con commenti e descirzioni di nessuna sfilata. Potete leggerne invece di ottimi sul sito di British Vogue che questa stagione ha notevolemente migliorato non solo la grafica ma anche i suoi contenuti. Quello che sono in grado di fare pero' e' quello di mostrarvi le mie collezioni preferite e aggiungere delle brevi osservazioni. Ho scelto tre designer dalle sfilate di New York.

Marc Jacobs

The collection is almost black and white stripes with a '60 vibe. I picked up the less outlandish looks that are pretty feminine, well cut and simply just pretty.

Victoria Beckham

A great collection of smart and smart casual outfits that stay true to her own estethic. great accessories too ( bags and shoes). If you have 50 minutes to spare (!!) you should really watch the ShowStudio Panel Discussion  about her brand and her collection - really informative and interesting.

 Jason Wu

A cohesive collection that plays with the contrasting inspiration from Helmut newton and Lillian Bassmann photography style.

Louis Vuitton/Kusama lookbook

Finally we have come full circle with the Vuitton/Kusama collaboration...in terms of pictures I mean. After a tasty preview of the looks back in May, now the whole lookbook is out :-) I don't usually publish entire lookbooks but I'm a big fan of Marc Jacobs ( as you know) and then in this specific case, I really admire how he found a way to translate Kusama spots into wearable clothes and accessories, going beyond the 'limits' of his previous collaborations with Murakami and Sprouse, having to rely on the iconic status of the Vuitton bag. Sorry for the pics and dots overload but it's worth it.

I wonder what Kusama would think of the models with a short bob like her.

Finalmente si chiude il cerchio della collaborazione Vuitton/Kusama...per quanto riguarda le immagini, intendo. Dopo la succosa preview di maggio, ora tutto il lookbook e' online :-) Di solito non pubblico lookbook interi ma sono un fan di Marc Jacobs (come sapete) e in questo caso specifico poi, ammiro il modo in cui sia riuscito a tradurre i pois di Kusama in acessori e abiti portabili, andando oltre il 'limite' delle sue collaborazioni precedenti con Murakami e Sprouse, dove faceva leva sullo status delle borse Vuitton.Mi scuso per la mole di foto e pois ma ne vale la pena.

Chissa' cosa ne pensa Kusama delle modelle dal taglio a caschetto come lei.
