Marc Jacobs: the Sun and the Prada effect.

Nel post di ieri sulla NYFW vi ho presentato una veloce carrellata di outfit di alcune collezioni; un 'Pick 'n Mix' fatto apposta, una strategia per cercare di trovare qualcosa di interessante :-( Come ogni stagione aspettavo che sfilasse Marc Jacobs - la cui collezione Marc di Marc Jacobs, anche se non entusiasmante al 100%, e' stata comunque divertente e una bella rilettura degli anni '70.

La collezione della linea principale? Un piccolo shock; per molteplici motivi.

Prima di tutto per il fatto che piu' che seguire un tema o un'idea, il filo conduttore degli outfit e' un mood, un sentimento. Un sentimento malinconico, nostalgico, quasi dark, sottolineato da un grande sole arancione ( che tramonta? che sorge?) ispirato dall'istallazione di Olafur Eliasson di qualche anno fa.

In my last post about NYFW I presented a quick selection of few outfits from some collections; a 'Pick 'n Mix' I did on pourpose, a strategy to try to find something interesting :-( Every season I wait for Marc Jacobs to show - whose Marc by Marc Jacobs collection, even if not 100% thrilling, it was fun a great reworking of the 1970's.

The main collection? A little shock; for several reasons.

First of all, instead of following a them or an idea, the outfits' file rouge was a mood, a sentiment. A melancholic, nostalgic one, almost dark, underlined by the big orange sun ( that was setting? or rising?) inspired by Olafur Ellisson's installation of few years ago.

Inoltre la collezione, proprio perche' veicola uno stato d'animo, e' difficile da 'leggere' al primo impatto e bisogna guardarla e riguardarla; e qui scatta l'effetto Prada. Non solo infatti e' possibile vedere come non mai l'influenza di Miuccia su Jacobs, ma look dopo look non sapevo se stavo guardando una sfilata (gia' vista) Miu Miu - e' il look sulla destra - o Marc Jacobs oltre a ritrovarmi a dover fare cio' che si fa dopo una sfilata Prada: prendere tempo, riflettere, guardare e riguardare e poi apprezzare. Sto aspettando che esca il video della sfilata per apprezzare meglio cio' che gia' e' disponibile in foto, poiche' sulla recensione di Style.com ho letto che le modelle hanno sfilato due volte; la prima con il sole che rendeva gli abiti un po' tutti uguali e monotoni, e la seconda con un sole dal bagliore piu' intenso che rivelava le diverse textures e colori degli outfit, in un esplosione di sfumature cangianti e bagliori metallici.

Then the collection, mainly because it communicates a mood, it's difficult to 'read' at first sight and you need to look at it over and over; here the Prada effect kicks in. It's possible, in fact, not only to see really clearly Miuccia's influence on Jacobs, but look after look I didn't know if I was watching (an already seen) Miu Miu show - that's the look on the right in the opening pic - or a Marc Jacobs one but I had to do what you do after a Prada show: take your time, reflect, watch the show over and over and then like it. I'm waiting to see the show on video to appreciate better what's in pictures, because on the Style.com review of the show, i read that the models paraded twice on the catwalk; the first time with the sun that made them look all the same an flat, the second with the sun much more bright that revealed the different textures and colours, on an explosion of iridescent hues and metallic glares

 

New York Fashion Week A/W 13 Pick 'n Mix

Come sempre, ad essere onesto, trovo la NYFW difficile da digerire e affrontare. Molti, troppi designers e pochi nomi, che interessano davvero. Ormai siamo agli sgoccioli - finisce stasera con la sfilata di Marc Jacobs :-) - e un po' come in un enorme negozio di caramelle dove la scelta e' talmente ampia che diventa difficile scegliere, ecco il mio personale 'Pick 'n Mix' delle collezioni.

As usual, to be honest, I find the NYFW hard to digest and face.  Many, too many, designers and very few names that are really interesting. We're near the end of it - it finishes tonight with Marc Jacobs :-) - and like in a a huge candy shop where there's so much choice that you can't really choose, here my personal 'Pick 'n Mix' of the collections.
