Brighton Fashion Week Xmas Pop-Up Shop

BFW, the fashion week that keeps on giving

Just over a month ago, the last edition of the Brighton Fashion Week took place at All Saints Church in Hove and it was also the first time that it showcased only sustainable collections and designers. The sustainability theme goes on as BFW keeps on giving till January the 6th with a Xmas Pop Up Shop located at the FAIR shop, in Queens Road (the big road that you find just outside the station going all the way down to the seafront). The location is well know for having been the spot of the Biba's first boutique, that was celebrated at the Brighton Museum with a retrospective exhibition three years ago.

The selection and mix of designers stays true to the BFW ethos to provide a platform for up and coming designers with a distinctive style irrespective of their origin. Infact the 20 designers at the Xmas Pop Up Shop include local, national and international brands and a wide range of products, from jewellery to clothing, accessories, homewear and gifts.

Brighton Fashion Week 2015

I've always been a keen supporter of fashion designers and fashion weeks close to the place I live; it doesn't matter if it's Rome Haute Couture - AltaRoma - and the Vogue Italia talents or the annual Brighton Fashion Week. Since I moved to Brighton, as you know, I've followed and be involved in it and year after year seen it become bigger and bigger. The 2015 edition is upon us, from the 15th to the 17th of October and is going to be entirely sustainable as the events, workshops, talk and last but not least collections show will be eco-friendly.

The Open Market will open the schedule with Fashion Salvage, a workshop that is aiming to show and educate people on how to up-cycle discarded clothes, using a 'Tonne of Clothes' that will be shipped to the Market as source material for the workshop. The same 'Tonne' will also be used on Saturday the 17th by LYC ( Love Your Clothes)  in partnership with Cancer Research UK and is open to the general public.

Brighton Fashion Week Xmas 2014 Pop Up Shop

After the success of its 2014 edition Brighton Fashion Week sprinkles its fashion dust over Christmas too, opening its first Pop Up shop. The aim and the mission of this event, that runs from December the 9th to January the 6th is, as the main fashion event, to showcase talent, innovation and above all give to independent, artisanal and young brands a springboard to reach a wider audience and get to be know.

The video below gives you a clear idea of the quirky and unique  gifts that can be bought in the shop and the range of products available; from jewellery to clothing and accessories, from homewares and artworks. Here just an edit of the products available on the shop but you can choose from many more as there are over 35 designers selling them.

The pop up shop is at 12 Meeting Lane, in the South Lanes and is open from 10am to 6pm Monday to friday and 10am-4,30pm on Sundays. Below the banner and the a map to easily find the BFW Xmas pop-up shop. (it-s marked in red).

Brighton Fashion Week 2014. The 10 Best Looks.

Credits: Malcolm Tam

I've just dutifully finished to review both the Sustain and the Zeitgeist show for Fashion News Magazine (in Italian) and here on my blog I'm going now to express my personal view of the look that I like most. I attended personally the Zeitgeist but I couldn't go to the Sustain due to my work schedule.

I've followed the Brighton Fashion Week with a lot of interest since I moved to Brighton in 2011 and so far I've reviewed the 2012 and 2013 edition and this is therefore my third. As usual it's really exciting to be there and both meet familiar faces in the audience and see the collection of already know designers and discover new ones. Here the 10 best looks I saw both in person and in the pictures.

'Made in Britain: Brocade Parade'. The New Collection by Daniella Christina and B.Millinery

----------------------
After a long wait, but it has was worth it, finally the  latest collection Daniella Christina the brainchild of designer Danielle Timms is out: 'Made in England: Brocade Parade'. I personally have known Danielle for a couple of years now, not only as I used some of her garments for styling the shoot 'Modern Vintage' but also I interviewed her for the Designer's Profile Project and I collaborated with her to launch the 'Make and Believe Magazine' nearly a year ago.
But let's talk about 'Brocade Parade' that coincides with the re-launch of the brand's website where you can easily see and buy the new collection.

--------------------
The collection, faithful to the vintage inspiration of the brand, looks back at the silhouette of the '40 and '50 and in particularly at Balenciaga, who in 1952 designed a collection of evening gown in floral fabric that ssculpet the feminime shape. Evey look is also completed in the lookbook by the refined millinery creations of B Millinery to emphasize the British roots of the outfits and the 'made in England' mood of the collection.

My Brighton and Hove Pride 2013

This is not a fashion related post...well there is a bit of style on it but that's not the point :-) Just a brief summary of my day spent with Roger out and about in town during Pride.
We do have now have a lazy habit of just watching the Parade start from Madeira Drive at 11 and then look at it again from the Steine. Great atmosphere as always and during Pride everybody had the privilege to feel a king or queen...whichever you prefer :-)
I started my day wearing an total white outfit with a great striped-rainbow coloured scarf by San Andres Milano
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some picture from the parade.
Alcune immagine della parata.

After that we felt like celebrating Pride in our own way and just had some oyster and prosecco for lunch at Riddle and Finns on the beachfront, that I highly recommend! ;-)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dopo di che ci andava di festeggiare il pride a modo nostro e ci siamo pappati una dozzina di ostriche ed un bicchiere di prosecco da Riddle and Finns sul lungomare, ristorante che vi raccomando! ;-)

Brighton Fashion Week 2013 - Showreel Show

Pictures: courtesy of Gareth Gregg @ http://www.SunshineLensPhotography.com

Saturday the 15th I had, once again, the privilege of sitting in the audience and be part of BFW. I did attend only the Showreel Show as I had just come back from a 2 week break in my hometown, Rome ;-)
Glad, though to be able to catch a bit of action as the whole experience, from the location to the show and the individual collections weres AMAZING!

For the the first time the show was at St. Bartholomew Church, bang in the heart of Brighton and well...a breathtaking place. I'm not easily impressed, especially by churches, as I'm spoilt for choice in Rome.

Here a selection the designers and the collections that I really, really appreciated and enjoyed!

SARINA POPPY - Diamonds and Champagne
'20 inspired collection of dresses and outfits for bride and groom.
The whole presentation was beautifully choreographed and performed. That added to the elegance and fun of the garments really made the whole experience e feats for the eyes.

CURVE COUTURE - Countryphile.
A sexy, SM, equestrian mood inspired Chrissie Nicholson-Wild collection. I had the chance to meet her and see her corset creation last year at the Brighton Boutique Fashion Charity Show and have been following her since. This time she developed her beautifully crafted corsets in whole garments and even presented two pieces for men to wear. Amazing!

JYLLE NAVARRO - Alien Invasion
The 'enfant terrible' of BFW strikes again and lands on the catwalk with her army of knitwear clad aliens.
Don't be distracted by the pumping music and the wobbly moving models but concentrate on the high quality of the colours, textures and designs before your eyes and just enjoy the ride.

Louise doesn't really need an introduction on this blog as I've been regularly posting about her and her work, as well as using her garments for my styling work. You now know her bridal collection, her signature '50 style looks, about her but this time she surprised everybody with a new direction. The title of the collection' Nova' was already a clue that something was going to change. What we saw on the catwalk were feminine Barbie-like/mermaids in bright and sparkling evening looks carefully designed and delivered with the flair that is Louise trademark.
