New Year Wardrobe Detox

I don't know about you but I never have NY resolutions. I have long term goals but not a list of resolutions to hit in the next 12 months. A great start to the year though can be done by 'detoxing' your wardrobe both with clothing that you know you won't be wearing anymore or that don't really work with building different outfits. 

I have to say that I generally buy really little but I end up with a mountain of stuff all the same because of work. In fact every three months I get a new 'uniform' - 3 tops and 1 bottom - plus a 30% discount on full price items. I do buy the odd item here and there too, so every couple of months I have to detox my own wardrobe and the unwanted items end up in the local charity shop. 

If you do have the need to declutter yours, here are some simple and easy guidelines to follow.

Non so voi ma non ho mai fatto propositi per il nuovo anno. Ho degli obiettivi a lungo termine ma non una lista di propositi da realizzare nei prossimi dodici mesi. Pero' un inizio come si deve del nuovo anno si puo' fare con la 'disintossicazione' del proprio armadio sia dagli abiti che non si indossano piu' sia da quelli con cui non e'possibile crare piu' di un outfit.

Generalmente devo dire che compro poco ma finisco comunque con l'avere una montagna di vestiti a causa del mio lavoro. Infatti ofni tre mesi ho una nuova uniforme -tre sopra ed un sotto - piu' uno sconto del 30% sullo stock a prezzo pieno. Inoltre occasionamente compro cose che mi servono o per occasioni speciali, qua e la'; ogni due mesi faccio pulizia nel mio armadio e cio' che scarto va al 'charity shop'dietro casa.

Se avete bisogno di 'disintossicare l'armadio ecco delle semplici e facili linee guida.

1) Go through every item and ask yourself you have worn it in the past three months. If the answer is 'yes' then you keep it, if it's 'no' it has to go.

2) Be ruthless when detoxing and if an item doesn't fit don't keep it for the when you'll have lost weight or the other way round. The same is true if you are thinking that it may be useful sometime in the undefined future. If it'snot being used it goes.

3) In case you discover that dress/bag/pair of shoes for which you paid a LOT but haven't worn for A WHILE, it means that it'll be of a better use either in a charity shop or,as an alternative, you can think of giving it to somebody you know who may like it AND use it.

These three 'rules' are not  rocket science and are really common sense but it is hard to go by then if you hesitate to follow them and are always thinking that ONE DAY you are going to need/wear those items that have been hanging in your wardrobe for months, if not years.

1) Analizzate un capo alla volta e chiedetevi se lo avete indossato negli ultimi tre mesi. Se la risposta e' 'si' allora lo tenete, se e' 'no' va scartato.

2) Siate senza scrupoli. Se un capo non e' piu' della taglia giusta non tenetelo per quanto avrete perso peso o il contrario. La stessa regola vale se state pensando che prima o poi vi servira' in un futuro lontano e indeterminato. Se non e' in uso, va scartato.

3) In caso scopriate quel vestito/borsa/paio di scarpe per cui avete pagato TANTO ma non avete indossato da UN BEL PO', significa che avra' un destino milgiore o in un 'charityshop o, come alternativa, potete darlo a qualcuno che conoscete a cui piaccia E che lo usi.

Queste tre 'regolette' non solo la scinza infusa ma semplice buonsenso ma sono difficili da seguire se esitate e pensate che UN GIORNO avrete bsiogno/indosserete quel capo che languisce nel vostro armadio da mesi se non da anni.

AltaRoma Gennaio 2015. Si Puo' Fare! Considerazioni.

AltaRoma Gennaio 2015? Si puo' fare! Lo so, lo so, che l'immagine qui sopra non e' fashion ne' tantomeno di classe ma riassume benissimo la mia eccitazione alla notizia che l'edizione di fine gennaio 2015 di AltaRoma si fara'. Un bellissimo regalo di fine anno dopo l'amara prospettiva di non poter vedere le sfilate e il mio gruppo di amici 'fashion' dal 30 gennaio al 2 febbraio. 

Come sapete da ormai due anni prenoto volo e alloggio a Roma in concomitanza con AltaRoma sia per essere presente alla manifestazione e per vedere la mia famiglia e i miei amici. E quest'anno mi sarebbe mancata moltissimo la dimensione 'lavorativa' della mia visita a Roma.

Ma mettendo da parte i fattori personali, la possibilita' che AltaRoma sparisse ha messo in luce piu' che mai alcune problematiche e fattori legati a questo evento.

Non a tutti e' chiaro che la moda e AltaRoma inclusa, non solo genera indotto, quindi lavoro e denaro che circola a Roma, ma e' anche cultura. Cultura in senso ampio; tenendo viva la tradizione del made in Italy, spingendo i nuovi designer e quelli 'in progress' delle accademie; mette in luce tramite gli eventi di A.I. la storia della moda della capitale , strettamente legata all storia d'Italia e al suo svoluppo socio economico,contribuendo quindi a dare una prospettiva e un significato alle sfilate attuali che si vedono in passerella.

AltaRoma inoltre fa incontrare  professionalita'e professionisti che per il resto dell'anno lavorano ognuno nella sua nicchia; designer, giornalisti, blogger, fotografi ,modelle, hair stylist e truccatori, istituzioni, clienti e buyer. 

Da sempre AltaRoma e' stata criticata per essere una 'cattedrale nel deserto' ma chi dice cio'coglie solo l'aspetto piu'esteriore di questa manifestazione senza aver visto di prima persona gli enormi passi avanti che sono stati fatti di edizione in edizione e l'altissima qualita' degli eventi offerti in location uniche e sepsso inaccessibili altrimenti. Una sinergia con Milano e Firenze e' stata auspicata da piu' voci e speriamo che,allaluce della recente crisi, ci si possa mettere presto a tavolino e trovare un modo per coordinare queste tre citta', la fashion week milanese, il Pitti e AltaRoma.

Per ora, rimbocchiamoci le maniche, prepariamo fotocamere, smartphone e outfit per il 30 gennaio!

Brighton Fashion Week Xmas 2014 Pop Up Shop

After the success of its 2014 edition Brighton Fashion Week sprinkles its fashion dust over Christmas too, opening its first Pop Up shop. The aim and the mission of this event, that runs from December the 9th to January the 6th is, as the main fashion event, to showcase talent, innovation and above all give to independent, artisanal and young brands a springboard to reach a wider audience and get to be know. 

The video below gives you a clear idea of the quirky and unique  gifts that can be bought in the shop and the range of products available; from jewellery to clothing and accessories, from homewares and artworks. Here just an edit of the products available on the shop but you can choose from many more as there are over 35 designers selling them. 

The pop up shop is at 12 Meeting Lane, in the South Lanes and is open from 10am to 6pm Monday to friday and 10am-4,30pm on Sundays. Below the banner and the a map to easily find the BFW Xmas pop-up shop. (it-s marked in red).

Fashion To Eat. #pretaportea In London

Come promesso eccomi di nuovo attivo sul blog e con il resoconto di una delle esperienze piu' fashion'da me vissute in tre anni di blogging: moda da mangiare e gustare nel cuore di Londra.

Un macaroon Williamson o un biscotto Charlotte Olympia? Una Victoria sponge Moschino o una pannacotta Docle & Gabbana?

Non sono (ancora) impazzito, ma questi gustosi dolci fanno parte dell'afternoon #pretaportea al Berkley Hotel. ispirato alle sfilate FW14, che ho avuto il piacere di assaggiare come parte dei festeggiamenti (grazie a Lizzie, Cory and Eva!) per l'unione civile ufficializzata tra me e Roger il 5 dicembre.

Eccovi a seguire gli abiti e accessori che dalle passerelle hanno fatto il salto nel mio piatto!

P.S. Ho personalmente scattato solo la foto qui sotto, poiche' ero ancora nella fase 'off line'e concentrato a vivere il momento. Ho trovato pero' delle ottime foto sul blog The LDN Diaries che combaciano a perfezione con le immagini degli abiti, borse e scarpe che fanno parte del #pretaportea.

I'm not gone crazy (yet), but these are the tasty sweets that you can find in the current afternoon #pretaportea at the Berkley Hotel, inspired by the FW14 collections, that I had the pleasure to eat as part of the celebrations (thank you Lizzie, Cory and Eva!) for the civil partnership between me and Roger on December the 5th.

Below the clothes and the accessories that jumped from the runway into our plates!

P.S. I've personally only shot the picture above, as I was still in my 'off line period' and focus on living the moment. I found though some excellent pictures on the blog The LDN Diaries that match to perfection with the pictures of clothes, bags and shoes that were part of the #pretaportea.

3 Weeks Off Line. 3 Weeks of Life.

L'ultimo post risale al 22 novembre 2014, 3 settimane fa, che nellala blogosfera equivalgono, diciamo a 30 anni? Non sono stato attivo per una serie di motivi, quasi tutti positivi, per i quali ho dovuto scegliere tra la mia vita online e quella off line. Ho comunque mandato avanti il mio impegno come corrispodente dal Regno Unito per Fashion News Magazine, scrivendo del Natale ad Hyde Park, da Liberty e del Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.

My last post dates back to November the 22nd, 3 weeks ago, that in the blog world are like, let's say, 30 years? I haven't been active for several reason, most of which are positive, and because of I had to choose between my online and offline life. I've maintained my collaboration with for Fashion News Magazine as their UK correspondent, writing about Christmas in Hyde Park, in Liberty and the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.

Il motivo principale di questa scelta e' stata la celebrazione dell'unione civile qui a Brighton con Roger il 5 dicembre:-) dopo 13 anni di felicissima convivenza. Anche se abbiamo fatto tutto in scala ridotta - noi 2, i testimoni ed un fotografo - siamo stati comunque impegnati con i preparativi pre-cerimonia e i festeggiamenti post-unione, terminati qualche giorno fa con un 'afternoon tea' molto fashion di cui vi parlero' in un post ad hoc tra qualche giorno.

The main reason of that choice was the celebration of my civil partnership here in Brighton with Roger on december the 5th :-) after 13 very happy years of being together. Even if we did things on a small scale - us, the 2 witnesses and the photographer - we have been busy all the same organising things and then carrying on with the several celebrations that finished just few days ago with a fashionable 'afternoon tea' that I'll describe in detail in a dedicated post soon.

Inoltre dicembre non e' il mese ideale per post originali e creativi; e' tutto un parlare di party outfit, party make up, maglioni di Natale e regali. Francamente piuttosto che scrivere di argomenti che altri 10.000 trattano, preferisco tacere, oltre al fatto che questo e' un mese fatto di feste e contro-feste, a cui non vado o non posso andare, il cui interesse e' limitato solo a coloro che vi partecipano; anche in questo caso non sempre vedo l'utilita' di scriverne.

Da oggi riprendo a barcamenarmi tra online ed offline, avendo ricaricato le 'batterie' e con un anello al dito!

Last but not least, December is not the ideal time to come up with original content on the blog; it's all about party outfits, party make up, Christmas jumpers and presents. Honestly I'd rather shut up than write what 10.000 other blogs talk about and as this is also the month of parties, where I don't go or can't go, I don't really see the point of writing about them.

From today though I'll resume my getting by between my online and offline life, full of energies and with a ring on my finger :-)

12 Best (?) Christmas Tree Decorations.

Non vi fate trarre in inganno dal titolo sarcastico e dalla foto del Grinch. Fare l'albero di Natale mi piace da morire ed e' una tradizione che mi porto dietro fin dall'infanzia. Cascasse il mondo l'8 dicembre l'albero va fatto e smontato il 6 gennaio. Anche qui in Inghilterra di anno in anno insisto con l'albero e nonostante l'appartamento in cui e R. viviamo sia poco spazioso, un angolino per l'albero lo troviamo sempre.

Il sarcasmo viene dal fatto che a Natale il confine tra kitsch e 'buon gusto' e piu' labile che mai e cio' che piace ad una persona facilmente non piace ad un'altra; da questa considerazione il mio atteggiamento scettico.

Di solito di anno in anno compro alcune decorazioni nuove da aggiungere a quelle che gia' ho e decido un tema o dei colori dominanti; per il 2014 ancora non ho avuto il tempo di pensarci ma ecco 12 decorazioni selezionate da 3 colossi del Natale: Selfridges, Liberty e John Lewis.

Don't be fooled by the sarcastic title and the Grinch opening picture. I adore decorating the Christmas tree and it's a tradition that I keep from childhood. No matter how busy I am, December the 8th the Christmas tree goes up and down on January the 6th. Even here in England, year after year, I insist with doing the tree and even if the flat where me and R.live is not spacious, we always find a corner for the tree.

The sarcasm comes from the fact that at Christmas the edge between kitsch and 'good taste' is really thin and what one person likes it's easily not liked by another.

Usually every year I buy few new decorations to add to the ones I already have and I decide a theme or a colour scheme; for 2014 I haven't decided yet but here 12 decorations selected from 3 giants of Christmas: Selfridges, Liberty and John Lewis.

LIBERTY

Se Natale per voi e' tradizione classica anche per l'albero di Natale, Liberty London fa per voi. Passerotti in feltro, casetta in stile nordico e personaggi dello Schiaccianoci in vetro decorato.

If Christamas is traditional also when it comes to the tree Liberty London is the right fit for you. Robins in felt, houses in Nordic style and characters from the Nutcracker is painted glass.

JOHN LEWIS

Infine il mitico John Lewis che , a parte il pinguino Monty, non solo ha una gamma vastissima di decorazioni tra cui scegliere, ma ha un tocco di leggerezza e ironia anche a Natale. Renne con il cappello da Babbo Natale, passerotti con le cuffie, dolcetti di Natale e scoiattoli; ecco lo spirito allegro e divertente del Natale.

Last but not least the famous John Lewis that, apart from Monty the Penguin, not only has a wide range of decorations, but has a touch of irony even at Christmas. Reindeers with Father Christmas hat, Christmas sweets, squirrels and robins with earphones; here you have the fun side of Christmas.

Le Tartarughe FW14 by Susanna Liso. Interior&Exterior.

Interiorita' ed Esteriorita', dal giorno alla notte, indoor e outdoor. Tra questi due poli si sviluppa la collezione FW14/15 del brand Le Tartarughe di Susanna Liso, storico brand e store nel cuore di Roma. 

Maxi pull che possono anche essere indossati come mini abito e abiti tunica in lama merino sono il perno di una collezione elegante, classica e timeless che permettono a chi li indossa di muoversi agilmente in un contesto metropolitano fitto di impegni, dalla mattina alla sera senza doversi cambiare d'abito.

Chiara Baschieri, designer romana, formatasi all'Accademia di Costume e Moda nel 2008 presenta la sua collezione SS15, punteggiata da 'armonie in contrasto'; dai tessuti alle silhouette, dalle lunghezze alla palette cromatica.

Capispalla, short e top  geometrici e spigolosi sono accostati a minidress e abiti da cocktail fascianti e dalle forme avvolgenti; texture tridimesionali come la rafia, devore' su base di organza e cotone laserato si contrappongono alla purezza del lino puro e del cotone spalmato. Anche le lunghezze sono a contrasto; ampi shorts e pantaloni alla caviglia, gonne a ruota e pencil skirts e una palette che dal candore del bianco, dell'avorio e del grigio perla vira drammaticamnete al verde acido e all'argento.

Geometric and pointy outerwear, shorts and tops sit next to binding cocktail dresses and enveloping mini dresses; tridimensional textures like rafia, devore' organza and laser cut cotton are opposed to the purity of linen and silk jaguar. The length too play with contrasts; large shorts and ankle grazing trousers, full skirts and  tight pencil skirts and a colour palette that from the candour of white, ivory and pearl grey dramatically turn to acid green and silver.

Infine non mancano gli accessori. Clutch mini e midi e cartelle in vitello e pitone, con ritagli geometrici e sprazzi di colore a rafforzare il mood armonioso e a contrasto dellla collezione.
