I have to admit that when Bouchra Jarrar was appointed Lanvin's designer few days ago, I only had a faint idea of who she was, having only read a long interview with her on BOF few months ago and seen her name on Haute Couture weeks every six months. I've done a bit of reserach now, both for my sake and for all of you that would like to know more about her, before her first collection for Lanvin will be shown in September.
Devo ammettere che quando Bouchra Jarrar e' stata nominata direttore creativo di Lanvin alcuni giorni fa, avevo solo una pllida idea di chi fosse, avendo solo letto una lunga intervista su BOF qualche mese fa e avendo visto il suo nome apparire durante l'Alta Moda ogni sei mesi. Ho fatto un po' di ricerca, sia per cultura personale ma anche per chi volesse saperne di piu', prima che la sua prima collezione per Lanvin sia presentata a settembre.
Jarrar VS Elbaz
The first thing that everybody wonders when a new Creative Director is appointed is if he/she is a good fit for the brand and if will be able to carry on, if not do better than the predecessor. Comparing Jarrar's and Elbaz SS16 collections, it's easy to see that she's got not only the skills but also the style and taste that fit in with the Lanvin woman image.
Even if Jarrar has been under the radar when it comes to RTW - she does it but she doesn't show it at the Fashion Week - she is hugely respected by the fashion press and critics for her excellent haute Couture work: she launched her own label in 2010 and from 2013 she's an official member of the Chambre syndicale of haute couture. She's also got lots of past experience, having worked with Gaultier, Guesquiere at Balenciaga and was director of Lacroix haute couture studio
La prima cosa che ci si chiede quando vinene nominato un nuovo Direttore Creativo e' se sia adatto al brand e se sia capace di continuare, se non migliorare il lavoro di chi lo ha preceduto. Paragonando le collezioni SS16 di Jarrar e Elbaz, e' semplice constatare che la designer non solo ha le capacita' tecniche ma anche uno stile ed un gusto che si integrano bene con l'immagine della donna Lanvin.
Anche se ha lavorato lontano dai riflettori, per quanto riguarda il RTW - che produce ma non fa sfilare - e' conosciuta e ripsettata dai critici e dalla stampa per il suo eccellente lavoro sull'Alta Moda; ha lanciato il suo brand nel 2010 e dal 2013 e' membro ufficiale della Camera Sindacale dell'Alta Moda francese. Ha inoltre molta esperienza passata, avendo lavorato per Gaultier, Guesquiere durante Balenciaga ed e' stata direttore di studio d'Alta Moda da Lacroix.
