Complete Party Outfits

Sono ormai due mesi che lavoro per River Island e tra le varie mansioni mi occupo dei fitting rooms - i camerini. A primo impatto sembrerebbe un luogo noioso e una mansione 'meccanica' ma in realta' mi da la possibilita' non solo di interagire con moltissime persone (i clienti), ma sopratutto di consigliarle, incoraggiarle, ispirarle e spesso creargli degli outfit compelti :-) Vengo a 'contatto' con la maggior parte dello stock in negozio ed ultimamente sto vendendo moltissimi abiti da sera. 

I due maxi dress metallici nell'immagine qui sopra, non solo sono i miei preferiti ma anche i best seller delle ultime due settimane. Ho creato, al volo due outfit completi con questi abiti, dalla testa ai piedi, sperando che vi possano essere da spunto per il vostro look delle feste :-) Che ve ne pare?

I've been working now for two months for River Island and among the several things that I do I'm often in charge of the fitting rooms. At a first glance it may seem a boring and ripetitive activity but it gives me the chance not only to interact with lots of people (the customers), but above all to advise them, encourage them, inspire them, and often put together complete outfits for them :-) I also get in 'touch' with mist of the stock in the store and lately I've been selling lots of party/evening dresses.

The two metallic maxi dresses above, not only are my favourites, but also the best seller for the past two weeks. I just created two complete outfits from head to toe with them. Hope you can get inspired and find it a great idea for your party season outfit.

Oh My Honey Bridal Collection 2013 Launch Party

Ieri sera ho avuto la magnifica opportunita' di partecipare al lancio della collezione 2013 di abiti da sposa Oh My Honey, di una delle designer piu' talentuose di Brighton, Louise O'Mahony.

Conosco Louise da circa un anno e ho usato alcuni dei suoi abiti per alcuni miei shooting, vintage e non.

Ricordatevi che siamo a Brighton e sopratutto che il DNA del brand sono gli anni '50; cio' significa che il party di lancio della collezione e' stato un mix riuscitissimo di divertimento ed eleganza.

La collezione: nove abiti dal design classico/retro dai tessuti di qualita' e dai ricami sobri ed eleganti

La location: Fun Fair Club. Un nome un programma! Un club dall'ambientazione luna park/fiera.

Bonus: una goodie bag di qualita', cupcakes, marshmallows, torte a volonta', un angolo 'photoboot' dal gusto retro ( sto aspettando che le foto escano on line) e un gruppo di invitati ben assortito!

A seguire le foto degli abiti, ordinabili on line, fatti su misura e di cui si puo'scegliere di cambiare anche i tessuti ed il colore. Il tutto ad una qualita' altissima e a prezzi veramente imbattibili.

Last night I had the great opportunity to attend the launch party of Oh My Honey's Bridal Collection 2013, by one of the mopst talented fashion designers in Brighton, Louise O'Mahony.

I met Louise a years ago and since then I've used some of her dresses for my styling work.

Bear in mind that we are in brighton and that the brand DNA is the '50 look and feel; it follows that the launch party was a perfect mix of fun and elegance.

The collection: nine gowns with a retro/classic design with high quality fabrics and sober and elegant embroidery.

The location: Fun Fair Club. The name says it all! a fun fair decorated-inspired club.

The bonuses: an excellent goodie bag ( already used the gel shower and the cleansing cream in it!), cupcakes, marshmallows, cakes, a photoboot corner and a great crowd.

Get the Sarah Lund Look!

Se non avete idea di chi sia Sarah Lund e del perche'abbia un look a cui ci si puo' ispirare eccovi due parole di background. Sarah Lund e' la protagonista della serie TV danese The Killing, che da tre stagioni spopola sulla BB4. La serie oltre ad essere ottima (altro che Montalbano!), ha catturato l'attenzione degli spettatori anche per i maglioni che la detective Lund indossa. Spessi, dai colori sobri e (a volte) dalle fanatasie ovviamnete nordiche che abbina agli immancabili jeans.

E' possibile comprare alcuni dei maglioni originali da Gudrun and Gudrun. Se pero' non si ha un budget che permette di spendere tra i €240 e €280 eccovi delle alternative: ASOS ed H&M.

If you haven't got a clu who Sarah Lund is and the reason why she's got a look that you can take inspiration from here some background info. Sarah Lund is the main character of the Danish TV series The Killing, that, in its third series now, has grown really popular here in the Uk on BBC4. The series is excellent (far more than the Italian Montalbano!), got a lot of attention and followers also for the jumpers that the detective Lund wears. Chunky, in muted colours, (not always) patterned jumpers that she combines with jeans.

It's possible to buy some of the original designs from Gudrun and Gudrun website. But if your budget doesn't allow for around £225 for a jumper here's some affordable options: ASOS and H&M.

Disney and Barney's new York present ''Electric Holiday''

La 'controversa' collaborazione tra Disney e Barney's New York e' uscita! e non e' poi tanto shockante come si pensava. Infatti, non appena sono usciti i bozzetti dei personaggi Disney nei loro outfit da sfilata ad agosto, a molti, me incluso, non sono piaciuti affatto, poiche' Minnie, paperina e Pippo erano molto ma molto allungati e magri. Per fortuna, Minnie, la protagonista principale di 'Electric Holiday', e' secca-allampanata solo per i pochi secondi in cui appare in passerella, ed e' comunque un sogno - tutto il cartone e' basato su Minnie che sogna di essere a Parigi tra gli addetti ai lavori guardando un vestito di Lanvin in vetrina. Devo dire che tutta la sequenza della sfilata sembra una presa in giro di quelle reali, poiche'i personaggi Disney non solo cambiano fisicamente ma si danno anche 'delle arie' e sono seriosissimi. Mi fa veramente piacere che il cartone sia allegro e godibile. Quanti personaggi riuscite a riconoscere?

The 'controversial' collaboration between Disney and Barney's New York is finally out! and not that shocking as we thought. Infact, when the sketches of the Disney characters dressed in runway outfit surfaced in August, lots of people, including me, didn't like it as Minnie, Daisy and Goofy were really really skinny and they didnt look right. Luckily Minnie, who's the main character of the cartoon, is skinny just for the few seconds that she's on the runway, and that's just a dream anyway - the whole cartoon is about her dreaming to be in Paris with the 'fashion pack', just by looking at a Lanvin dress in a window. I have to say that the whole sequence of the Disney characters fashion show looks like a 'spoof' of real ones, as they not only get skinny but also strike an attitude that you never see on their 'regular' faces.

So glad that the cartoon is fun and humourous. How many fashion insiders can you spot?

Bags of Style.

Questo post su borse ed affini e' in realta' (nella mia mente) un'espansione di quello sugli Hight Street Fashion Awards 2012. Gia' in quell'occasione avrei voluto approfondire il discorso ma, alla fne, non ho voluto mettere troppa carne al fuoco. eccoci qui comunque. Approfondimento su questo accessorio che diversamente dalle scarpe, e' un po piu' easy, per il solo fatto, ovvio, che, in teoria, non ci sono misure da provare e poi vedere se e' comodo e ci si puo' camminare - anche se mi e' capitato di avere borse scomodissime o della misura sbagliata che ho 'mollato' appena ho potuto.

Eccovi una selezione di borse da River Island ,che ha vinto il premio per miglior borse, che vedo e tocco ogni settimana, lavorandoci nei week end. Vi posso quindi dire che il rapporto qualita' prezzo e' ottimo oltre ad una varieta' di design che vanno dai piu' classici ai piu'contemporanei. Date uno'cchiata qui sotto.

Peccato che RI ancora non ci sia in Italia - farebbe una concorrenza tremenda ai vari H&M e Zara- ma c'e' lo shopping online, ricordate.

This post about bags&Co. it's really an expansion (at least in my head) of the one on the High Street Fashion Awards 2012. In that occasion I wanted to go deeper into the awards details but i didn't as to not write a really lengthy post. Here we are. In theory bags are an easy accessory to choose, opposed to shoes, as there no size involved and comfort - but I'm sure that it happened to you as to me to have a bag of the wrong size, quite uncomfortable that you ditch as soon as possible.

Here a selection of bags from River Island that wont the award for best bags, that I see and touch every week, as I work in a River Island branch. So I can tell you that the quality/price balance it's really great as well as the range of design that goes from classic to contemporary.

River Island is not spread in Europe like Zara and H&M - and it would be a really great and tough competitor for them - so if there's not a store in your country or city...well you can shop online

Chelsea Girl Collection and the Harumika style.

Harumika non e' una nuova categoria di Lolita giapponesi o un a nuova band K-Pop. L'Harumika style a cui vi parlo - come si vede dalla foto di apertura - e' la creazione o riproduzione(in questo caso) di abiti ma in miniatura. Una versione contemporanea di cio' che (quasi) tutti noi fashionisti, abbiamo fatto dutante l'infazia con Barbie, scampoli di tessuto, nastri e nei miei ricordi personali con il tulle e l'organza delle bomboniere :-)

La cosa interessante e' che e' stata ricreata da questo brand -Harumika- la collezione Chelsea Girl di questa stagione. Di mini collezioni ne abbiamo viste tante, su Barbie, Blythie etc...ma questa e' veramente la piu' piccola.

Harumika is not a new sub-genre of Japanese Lolitas or a new K-pop band. The Harumika style I'm referring to is -as you can see from the picture above- the creation and reproduction (in this case) of clothes but in minaiture. It's a contemporary version of what, all of us, fashionistas, did in our childhood on Barbies, with fabric swatches, ribbons and in my personal experience with net and organzas too :-)

The interesting thing in this case is that a real collection, this season Chelsea Girl has been done. We have seen mini collections before on Barbies and Blythies...but this is the smallest.

La 'designer' in questione e' Christina Ruby Walton, neo-lauraeta alla UCF (University of creative Arts) che ha collaborato per due settimane con il team di River Island/Chelsea Girl per ricreare in maniera piu' fedele i modelli. Sono stati riprodotti 10 outfit su mini manichini alti 21 cm e larghi 4, usando gli stessi tessuti, le stesse stampe e ricami degli originali.

Magari  noi siamo un po' troppo cresciutelli per i set Harumika (ma non e' detto eh), ma se state pensando ad un regalo di Natale per bimbe e anche bimbi interssati al designe alla moda, forse questo potrebbe essere uno spunto. Inoltre, questa news ci da l'occasione anche di dare una sbirciata veloce alla collezione Chelsea Girl!

The 'designer' in charge is Christina Ruby Walton, a new graduate from UCF (University of Creative Arts) who worked for two weeks with the River Island/Chelsea Girl team to recreate the clothes. They produced 10 complete outifts on small mannequins 21cm high and 4cm wide, using the same fabrics,prints and embellishments of the original ones.

Maybe we are a touch too grown up for the Harumika sets (but it's nevere too late), but if you're thinking about Christams presents for baby fashionistas (girls and boys) that's and idea. Plus this news gives us the chance to have a quick look at the real Chelsea Girl collection!

High Street Fashion Awards 2012_ASOS&Co.

Il fashion magazine Company ogni anno proclama i suoi 'awards' e poiche' abbigliamento ed accessori di cui la testata si occupa sono 'high street'/'fast fashion' (anche online), ovviamente le nomination ed i vincitori ricadono in tale categoria. Un magazine del genere, e relativi awards, non funzionerebbe in Italia :-( poiche' la concorrenza e la presenza tra brand e poca se paragonata a quelle presenti sulle vie dello shopping qui in Inghilterra, sia da parte di marchi 'autoctoni' ( River Island, Topshop,New Look) che stranieri ( H&M).

Ha fatto strage di premi ASOS, conosciuto e apprezzatissimo anche in Italia, che si e' aggiudicato le categorie Miglior Luogo in cui spendere £150, Miglior Fashion Retailer e Miglior Retailer Online.

H&M si e' portato a casa un premio per Miglior luogo in cui spendere £50 (!!), sfiorando il premio Milgiore collaborazione con quella Marni (che non ci' piaciuta) aggiudicata da New Look che ha vinto anche, nella categoria accessori, Migliori Calzature sotto i £50.

River Island si e' accaparrata il premio per Best Handbags e Accessorise per Best Jewellery.

Mi rendo conto che questo resoconto possa sembrare una semplice 'lista' di chi abbia vinto e chi no. In realta', come in altri aspetti, penso sia bene guardare oltre il nostro naso e non accontentarsi troppo facilmente di cio' che 'a portata di mano'. Cosi' come si viaggia, si guarda fuori dall'Italia, per vedere come fanno in maniera diversa (e a volte migliore) le cose, anche nel campo della fast fashion, vale la pena vedere cosa offrono marchi non disponibili in Italia ma che possiamo scoprire online e acquistare con un click.

Warm Winter Knits

Una settimana fa vi ho dato qualche spunto per 'conciarvi per le feste' (Natale&Co.). Visto che mancano pero' un bel po' di settimane ed il freddo ormai incalza, ecco una selezione di maglieria, maglioni e cardigan, per essere stylish anche quando si ha piu' di qualche strato addosso.
