Marc Jacobs: the Sun and the Prada effect.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In my last post about NYFW I presented a quick selection of few outfits from some collections; a 'Pick 'n Mix' I did on pourpose, a strategy to try to find something interesting :-( Every season I wait for Marc Jacobs to show - whose Marc by Marc Jacobs collection, even if not 100% thrilling, it was fun a great reworking of the 1970's.
The main collection? A little shock; for several reasons.
First of all, instead of following a them or an idea, the outfits' file rouge was a mood, a sentiment. A melancholic, nostalgic one, almost dark, underlined by the big orange sun ( that was setting? or rising?) inspired by Olafur Ellisson's installation of few years ago.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Then the collection, mainly because it communicates a mood, it's difficult to 'read' at first sight and you need to look at it over and over; here the Prada effect kicks in. It's possible, in fact, not only to see really clearly Miuccia's influence on Jacobs, but look after look I didn't know if I was watching (an already seen) Miu Miu show - that's the look on the right in the opening pic - or a Marc Jacobs one but I had to do what you do after a Prada show: take your time, reflect, watch the show over and over and then like it. I'm waiting to see the show on video to appreciate better what's in pictures, because on the Style.com review of the show, i read that the models paraded twice on the catwalk; the first time with the sun that made them look all the same an flat, the second with the sun much more bright that revealed the different textures and colours, on an explosion of iridescent hues and metallic glares

New York Fashion Week A/W 13 Pick 'n Mix

As usual, to be honest, I find the NYFW hard to digest and face.  Many, too many, designers and very few names that are really interesting. We're near the end of it - it finishes tonight with Marc Jacobs :-) - and like in a a huge candy shop where there's so much choice that you can't really choose, here my personal 'Pick 'n Mix' of the collections.

Another go with finding the influence; this time is Galliano. The outfits, hair and make up of the last part of the collection...no?

Designer's Profile Project - Louise O'Mahony

PH:Laura Babb
Another Monday and another Designer's Profile - and the last one for the time being. To conclude the series, after two Italian designers (Caterina Gatta and Quattromani) and a British one (Daniella Christina) here we go with the second one: Louise O'Mahony.
If you are a regular reader of my blog and follow my styling work you already know her and her designs. Every time I had the chance either to write about and review her collections (Bridal Collection 2013 Launch Party/ Brighton Fashion Week 2012) or use her garments (New Vintage Shoot) I've always done it with great pleasure and delight.

I leave you know with the interview and some great pictures of her work.

1) A brief introduction about you, the label, the kind of designs/garments you create, where are you based.
I am Louise O'Mahony, a fashion designer and seamstress. I work under two labels, one is Oh My Honey, where I design and make 1950's inspired dresses, including wedding and bridesmaid dresses. The other is Louise O'Mahony, which is for my more avant garde designs, costume and bespoke bridal wear. I work from my home studio just outside Brighton in Falmer Village.
(I visited her in her home/studio and Falmer Village is a pretty picturesque place with a pond with swan adn ducks and cute country church)

PH: Malcolm Tam

2) What's your typical customer.
For Oh My Honey my typical customer is about 18-40, likes the retro styles, and looking for a dress that will be really fun and elegant to go out in, or as a beautiful day dress, woman that like colour and something that stands out from the crowd. Often they are brides looking for bridesmaid dresses too. For Louise O'Mahony my customers are so varied, it is anything from performers wanting something amazing to wear on stage, burlesque dancers, brides that want something a bit different. Really individual women that want to stand out from the crowd.

3)What's your concept of fashion and what's your relationship with the fashion system (i.e. fashion show, shooting, stylists, press, etc...)
I believe that every woman should feel amazing in what they wear, and I think that clothes are a perfect way to express many things, your mood, personality or the person you want to be perceived as, style, attitude and character can all be expressed in the way you dress yourself.
I love doing fashion shows, especially if I have a new range to reveal, they can be so exciting and it is a great chance for people to see the dresses in action. One of my favourite things to be involved in is styled photo shoots. Because I am so busy with business these days I don't have as much time as I would like to be involved in all of the shoots I get asked to be part of, but they are really fun when I do get the chance, in the last year I have done some shoots in some amazing locations, forests, crumbling mansions, lavender fields and even underwater!

4) Projects for 2013.
I have some really fun photoshoots lined up already, and collaborations with other industry professionals. I have started work on some quirky Alice in Wonderland inspired dresses for a very fun styled shoot coming up and I have also started to design my next haute couture collection for Louise O'Mahony that will be out in May.

5)Where to see and buy your designs ( webiste, stockists, etc...)
You can see and buy designs I have available on my website www.ohmyhoney.co.uk and www.louiseomahony.com, and also when I am exhibiting. I have three wedding fairs lined up this Spring, March 3rd Brighton Dome, March 27th Hove Town Hall, and April 24th Unitarian Church, Brighton.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mi chiamo Louise O'Mahony, stilista e sarta.

Designer's Profile Project - Quattromani

Third week of this project and third interview! This week we get to know a young designer's duo, Quattromani, that is completely different in style from the vintage fabrics designer Caterina Gatta and the vintage inspired designer Danielle Christina Timms, whom I profiled in the past two weeks.

I've first got to know Quattromani and their designs back in october when I reviewed their S/S 13 collection First Touch, now it's the time to get to know them personally.

1) A brief introduction about you, your label, the style of your designs, where you work.
We met in Cagliari ( in Sardinia) where we were both attending Fashion School. After a short while we became close friends and started giving advice to each other and began working together. We graduated and had our first work experience for Les Copains. We then got back home and we worked separately for a while. Teaching fashion, in the same Accademy where we studied brought us togethere again and talking about doing something together, the project Quattromani was born.

As the name says, Quattromani ( four hands), is a collaboration, exchange of ideas and sinergy of two minds for one project. Our style is essential, made of simple and istinctive pieces; the details are the decorations and the lines are clean, accessories are a key part of the look and colour is power and energy.

2) Who's your ideal customer?
Our ideal customer is a self-confident woman, that wants to wear something fresh, new, simple but colourful. She's dynamic, quick, with an eye for details and on her purse ;-)
3) Your idea of fashion and your relationship with the fashion system (trends, fashion shows, events, lookbook, photogrpher, stylists etc...)
Our idea of fashion comes from a desire to semplify concepts and codes, we love clean lines and essential geometries. We love even more colour, that is our main strenght and it helps to communicate energy;the same energy that we use every day in our creative process. We like talking to people, colaborating, find ne imputs and idea. We tend to surround ourselves with people and worlds far from us, the two of us are really different froma start and we try to find some common ground to all of these different points of view.
4) Projects for 2013
We already have lots of ideas. First of all we want to go on experimenting with materials and get closer to technology. But above all we want to grow our project and get our label know to lots of people.
5) Where can we see  and buy your collections.
At Studio DModa in Rome, in Cagliari at COIRAMI concept e and soon in other places in Rome.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Valentine's Day Outfit con Zalando+codice sconto ;-)
