Bleu Anglais Capsule Collection by Ian Batten and Noel Chapman @Livingston Studio

Not very often you I get invited to the launch of a capsule collection by its very own creators, but that's what happened with the launch of the Bleu Anglais, a collaboration between Ian Batten and Noel Chapman, at Livingston Studio in Hampstead. I personally know Noel as he is a very good friend of Roger's and he told us about this latest project a couple of weeks ago when he was in Brighton to teach.
Noel has been obsessed all his life, as far as I know with the colour blue, so much that not only he knows a lot about it but this  interested of this, among others, led him to become an expert about indigo, the indigo dye and lately he 's been sourcing vintage textile rolls - not in production anymore- in China where he works as a fashion consultant.
So that's the 'blue part' of the collection explained, for now; the other half of the project is designer Ian Batten.

Ian Batten is a well know and esteemed fashion designer the industry, as he's been quietly and consistently working since the '70, who moved away from womenswear more than a decade ago and in 1992 established his namesakemenswear label Ian Batten Design.  His signature style are unstructured and classic pieces that, to be fair, can be worn by both sexes, transcend trends, are all about shapes and are simply beautiful clothes to wear.
The collection Bleu Anglais, you can see now, comes from the exquisite vintage, cotton check textile Chinese textile sourced by Noel and the design style of Ian. It was fascinating to hear how the collaboration came together and how the workwear aesthetic of each piece comes both from the history and quality of the textile - stiff and tightly woven - and the aim of Ian, Noel and Livingstone Studio too, to create garments that are timeless and unique at the same time.
