Just stumbled upon this competition while reading the IFB newsletter , gave it a quick look even if I don't usually enter competitions. This one though caught my attention because it's about creating a moodboard with Guess products. Being the stylist that I am, I do love creating moodboard prior to styling a shoot and that's why I entered the competition. The next step is getting the moobdard LIKED on FB and then the 10 finalists will write a piece - don't know yet what about - and the final two, in September, will get Guess producst for a year and represent the brand on social media. Not bad...

So...you can enter the competition too and/or LIKE my moodboard below :-) Yes? Thanks!

Sono appena 'inciampato' in questo contest mentre leggevo la newsletter di IFB, gli ho dato un'occhiata anche se di solito non ne prendo parte. Questo contest pero' ha catturato la mia attenzione perche' in questo caso si tratta di creare un moodboard con prodotti di Guess. Essendo lo stylist che sono, adoro creare moodboard prima di fare lo styling per uno shooting ed e' per questo che ho preso parte alla 'gara'. Il passo successivo e' quello di farsi votare il moodboard su FB con i LIKES e quindi i milgiori 10 scriveranno un post per Guess e i migliori due, a settembre, avranno una fornitura di prodotti Guess per anno  erappresenteranno il brand sui social media. Non male...

Hi there.

Havent' been blogging for a while but for a reason.

And that is 'So Vain Magazine', a blog turned on line magazine of my Facebook friend Stepahie Reed.

She asked me to write for the magazine but , as I dont' REALLY like writing, it turned out that I have a weekly column called 'Dan Styling Tips' about the nature of fashion styling.

The column, for the time being, it's planned to last just for few week. Every Friday I'll explain the major aspects of styling, for those in the know and those who would like to know.

E' da un po' che non aggiorno il blog ma per un motivo valido.

Si chiama 'So Vain Magazine', un blog trasformato in magazne online della mia Facebook.amica Stephanie Reed. Mi ha chiesto di scrivere per il magazine ma, poichè non mi piace moto farlo, la collaborazione si è trasformata in una rubrica chiamata 'Dan Stylin Tips' sulla natura del fashion styling.

La rubrica, per ora, durera solo alcune settimane. Ogni venerdi'raccontero' uno degli aspetti importanti dello styling, sia per gli addetti ai lavori che per chi ne vuole sapere qualcosa in piu'.

Riccardo Tisci Visionaire!

That's a really long maantilla but...it does work, MY GOD!!!

This Christina Ricci pic is in the lastest issue of Visionare - the Religion issue, and it's amazing. Riccardo Tisci was guest editor and the choice not to focus on fashion has been...EXCELLENT!

Sometimes being fashionable glamourous and chic doesnt mean wering designer clothes but create a mood.

Questa si che è una mantilla veramente lunga ma...funziona...MIO DIO!

Questa foto di Christina Ricci è nell'ultimo numero di Visionaire - il numero Religion, ed è eccezionale. Riccardo Tisci è stato il guest editor e la scelta di non concentrarsi sulla moda è stata ...OTTIMA!

A volte per essere alla moda, glamour e chic non significa indossare gli abiti degli stilisti ma creare un 'mood', ovvero un'atmosfera.

Talking about mantillas I istantly though about ADR, Anna Dello Russo, who , not long ago did a shooting for EL PAIS, wearing mantillas, but with a really different mood ;-)

Parlando di mantilla mi è venuta subito in mente ADR, Anna Dello Russo, che non molto tempo fa ha posato per con tanto di mantilla per EL PAIS, ma con un mood decisamente divrso da Visionare ;-)

Pre-shooting production!

Hi there! Been working on a styling project with a friend photographer and a friend/model and just thought that jotting down the steps of what goes on in producing a fashion photoshoot would be a good review for me but also an interesting insight for those who are curious to know.

So here we go with the first step:

PRE-SHOOTING PRODUCTION.

 That is all the prep involved before the lights get set and flashing in the studio and the camera starts clicking .

As far as I'm concerned prep is 80% of a good shooting. The more you prep, the best the shoot will turn out.

Following the list below the moodboard and the fitting pictures ( to be taken with a pinch of salt as the oputfits have already been developed and got better!)

Ciao! Sto lavorando ad un progetto di styling con un amico fotografo ed un'amica/modella ed ho pensato che mettere giù le fasi in cui si svolge la produzione di un servizio fotografico sarebbe stata un buon ripasso per me ed interessante per coloro che hanno la curiosità di saperlo. ecco la prima fase:

PRE-PRODUZIONE.

Ciò indica tutta la preparazione prima che le luci si accendano e flashino e che la macchian fotografica clicchi. per quanto mi riguarda la preparazione è l'80% di un buon servizio. Più ci si prepara e meglio il servizio verrà. Di seguito, dopo la lista, il mood board del progetto e lefoto del fitting ( da prendere con le pinze in quanto i look sono gia' stati migliorati e sviluppati!) 

ho scorato di metter qualche passaggio nella lista?

'70 icons + 2011 styling!

Finally I got together the follow up to my '70 moodboard post. As I told you (http://dbstyle-thestylist.blogspot.com/2011/01/so-70-moodboard.html ), once the moodboard is established and edited, the pictures  can be translated into defined visual elements, in my case an outfit.

So, yesterday my moodaboard got checked, commented on and improved by my wonderful Fashion Styling course tutor, Valeria, and I focused on comics/cartoon '70 icons.

The first three I've just finished are: Wonder Woman, Penelope Pitstop from 'Wackey Races', and Eva Kant ( from an Italian comic). I've re-interpreted the characters both from a styling point of view and above all I gave them a funny/comical twist. Check it out! ;-)

Finalmente ho raccolto il materiale necessario per il seguito del mio post sul moodboard anni '70. Come vi ho spiegato (http://dbstyle-thestylist.blogspot.com/2011/01/so-70-moodboard.html ), una volta che il moodboard è fatto ed editato, le immagini possono essere tradotte in elementi visivi precisi, nel mio caso degli outfit.

Dunque, ieri il mio moodboard è stato controllato, commentato e migliorato dalla meravigliosa tutor del mio corso di Fashion Styling, Valeria, e mi sono concentrato sulle icone degli anni'70 di cartoni animati e fumetti.

I primi tre che ho terminato sono: Wonder Woman, Penelope Pitstop 'Le corse pazze' ( Wackey races), ed Eva Kant. Ho reinterpretato i personaggi sia da un punto di vista dello styling e sopratutto gli ho dato un tocco di ironia. Vedere per credere! ;-)

Wonder picnic Woman.

Wonder Woman loves being outside and arrange picnis with her girlfriends. The colours and the silhoutte are the same of the past but adapted to a rural location

Wonder Woman adora stare all'aria aperta ed organizzare picnic con le amiche. I colori e la silhoutte sono quelli di una volta ma adattati ad una location campestre!

  

Penelope Pitstop 2011.

Penelope still adores driving but her wacky race driving got her into trouble! She's got no points left on her driving licence. She's on foot...for the moment.

Penelope adora ancora guidare ma il suo stile di guida pazzo l'ha messa nei guai! Non ha piu' punti sulla patente. Sta a piedi...per ora.

Eva Kant ... en rouge!

Eva got fed up with wearing only black and flat shoes. She didn't stand either the fact that she couldn't carry a small bag for her i-Pod and lipstick during her burglaries! So, now she's wearing a bright red jumpsuit, a body with red and pink frills, black killer wedges and a huge cow-print rucksack! She doesn't care if working like that it's not very comfortable but at keat she feel stylist now.

Eva si era stufata di indossare solo nero e ballerine. Non poteva nemmemo portarsi una borsetta per l'i-Pod ed il rossetto durante i furti! Quindi, ora indossa una tutina rosso fuoco, un body con piccole balze rosse e rosa, wedge vertiginosi ed un enorme zaino a stampa mucca! Non le importa se lavorare cosi' non è molto comodo ma almeno si sente stylish.

So '70 moodboard!

Here it is my first (on the blog) moodboard, in preparation for a '70 inspired photoshoot! For those who don't know know what moodboard means: a collage of pictures that relate to a theme, a mood or idea. It's usually the starting point for creatives to gather ideas and elements that, later on in the process, will be translated into defined visual elements ( clothes and accessories, in my case).

My theme is the '70 and I've put together in 3 separate groups prints, patterns, colours and lively, sexy and self-confident female characters. I've deliberately avoided fashion related pictures and clothes ( couldn't resist the earings, though) in order to keep my insipration 'pure'. Hope you enjoy it and can feel the '70 groove!

Ecco qui il mio primo moodboard per il blog. in preparazione ad un servizio fotografico ispirato agli anni '70. Per chi non sapesse cosa significa moodboard: un collage di immagini che si riferiscono ad un tema, un'idea o un mood ( umore), appunto. Di solito è il punto di partenza per i creativi per raccogliere idee ed elementi che poi più avanti nel processo verranno tradotti in elementi visivi concreti ( vestiti ed accessori, nel mio caso).

Il mio tema sono gli anni'70 e ho messo insieme in 3 insiemi stampe, motivi, colori e personaggi femminili allegri, sexy e sicuri di sè. Ho deliberatamente evitato immagini di moda e vestiti ( non ho resistito agli orecchini però), al fine di manenere la mia ispirazione 'pura'. Spero che vi piaccia  e riusciate a sentire il groove degli anni'70!
