Yesterday I had the opportunity to be backstage at a fashion show, instead of sitting in the audience and reporting about it, as a stylist/dresser, for the Brighton Boutique Charity Fashion Show at the club Oceana, raising money for the Cancer Research Uk. Being the first time backstage didn't know what to expect and was therefore willing to help out wherever possible. The designers (most of which showed at the Brighton Fashion Week - Frocks) where all quite prepared and organised, so there was very little to do styling wise (apart from helping with a couple of quick changes during the show) and I spent my time doing various things - giving designers a clothes rail upon arrival, getting models in touch with designers and hair and make up etc... - and had the time to talk to them and network :-) Was there any backstage drama? Not really but one episode...
Ieri ho avuto l'opportunita' di stare nel backstage di una sfilata invece che seduto tra il pubblico per scriverne un articolo, in veste di stylist/vestiarista, per il Brighton Boutique Charity Fashion Show nel locale Oceana, per raccolgiere fondi per il Cancer Research UK. Essendo la prima volta non sapevo cosa aspettarmi e quindi ero preparato ad aiutare dovunque fosse possibile. Gli stilisti erano tutti molto preparati ed organizzati ( molti dei quali hanno sfilato alla Brighton Fashion Week - Frocks) , quindi c'e' stato poco da fare sul fronte dello styling ( a parte aiutare in un paio di cambi veloci durante la sfilata) e mi sono dato da fare sotto altri aspetti piu' organizzativi - dare un appendi abiti agli stilisti all'arrivo, mandare le modelle al trucco e parrucco o a conoscre gli stilisti ( se non erano state al fitting) etc... - e ho avuto il tempo di parlare con loro e di fare un po' di networking :-) Ci sono stati drammi da backstage? Veramenete no a parte un episodio...
Here the drama: shoes! A designer realised that she packed some odd pairs of shoes resulting in three models with no shoes at all. It got sorted out by another stylist who was backstage who did a run to a shoe shop and get them borrowed just for the show. Once I was aware of that, I gave an help with the practicality of it: taping! It's apparently a trivial thing to do but really important if you have to return the shoes and not be charged for them. It follows that the taping has to be done properly and without the tape showing (obviously).
Ecco il dramma: le scarpe! Una stilista si e' accorta di aver messo in nel suo bagaglio alcune paia di scarpe scompagante con il risultato di avere tre modelle senza scrape. La questione si e' risolta quando un altro stylist che era con me backstage ha fatto una scappataal negozio di scarpe piu' vicino e se le e' fatte prestare per la sfilata. Una volta che mi sono accorto di cio' che era successo, ho dato una mano con il lato pratico della faccenda: nastro adesivo sotto la suola! E'una cosa apparentemente di poco conto ma molto importante se le scarpe devono essere restitutite e non pagarle. Ne consegue che cheil lavoro va fatto scrupolosamente e senza che spunti fuori (ovviamente)
