Go with the Great Gatsby. Get the look.SS12 trend

It's one of the few trends - possibly the only one - that went off the fashion radar, undetected and that didn't trickle down from runways to the streets: the '20/flapper girl/Great Gatsby look. Designers and people in the fashion scene have been aware for a year now that the remake by Buz Lurmannof 'The Great Gatsby' was under way,  and ,I guess, that designers trying to catch on the release of the film, launched '20 ispired collection for SS 12 ( Gucci, Marc Jacobs and Ralph Lauren). Unfortunately the release of the film isn't due untill December 2012 so that it means that this look/trend hasn't picked up...yet. I guess it will, in due course, and I'm doing a styling post now, so that we can all be ahead of the 'trend curve' and embrace a Great Gatsby look ahead of time.

E' uno dei pochi trend - forse l'unico - che e'andato fuori dal radar fashion, perso e che non e' sceso dalle passerelle in strada: il look/trend anni '20, ragazza flapper/Great Gatsby. Stilisti e addetti ai lavori erano consci, me incluso, almeno gia' da un anno che il remake del fim ' Il Grande Gatsby ', ad operadi Buz Lurmann, fosse in produzione, e, credo, che alcuni stilisti abbiano provato ad approfittare dell'uscita del film, proponendo collezioni ispirate agli anni '20 per la stagione SS12 (Gucci, Marc Jacobs e Ralph Lauren). Sfortunatamente l'uscita del film avverra' a dicembre e cio' significa che il suddetto look/trend non ha potuto attecchire a dovere...per ora. Sono convinto che prendera' piede pero' e vi presento questo post di styling, in moda essere davanti alla 'curva del trend' e sfoggiare un look alla Great Gatsby prima di tutti.

THE OVERALL LOOK and FEW TIPS

IL LOOK IN GENERALE  e ALCUNE DRITTE.

- Look out for dresses that are sleevless, have a drop waist cut and that just skim the body but are not tight.

-Look for embellishments and embroidered hems in art deco'style.

-You can wear trousers too. Just make sure they are comfortable and slightly flaired.

-The look can be a touch too costume-y and on the fancy dress side of things SO...think about just using accessories with a '20 style/feel about them.

-Scegli abiti senza maniche, con il taglio della vita 'sceso' e che seguono la linea del corpo ma non aderenti.

-Cerca abiti che abbiano ricami e dettagli sugli orli in stile art deco'.

-Potete anche indossare dei pantaloni. assicuratevi che siano comodi e leggermenti scampanati.

-Questo look puo' risultare un po' teatrale e una specie di travestimento QUINDI...come opzione potete anche usare solamente accessori che abbiano un'aria anni'20.

How NOT to look good - Large Floral Prints -Fashion Trends SS12

Do you want look 'larger-than-life' sporting one the SS12 trends? Try the big floral prints trend then. Here some looks and styling tips on how NOT to look goot in it.

Vuoi apparire in tutta la tua 'grandezza' sfoggiando uno dei trend SS12? Allora prova la stampa a fiori grandi . A seguire alcuni look e trucchi per NON apparire al vostro meglio.


- THE BASICS.

Large prints in general have the quality of enhancing, zooming in and making a surface look bigger. This effect is even more true with geometric patterns and prints that are not abstract; in which case even if the print is large you may get away with it if the colours are dark - you all know the slimming effect of balck, right? So look out for large flower prints to get the right enlarging effect.

-DA DOVE COMICIARE.

In generale tutte le stampe grandi hanno la qualita' di ingrandire e zoommare, renderendo la superficie che si guarda piu' grande di cio che e'. Questo effetto e' vero sopratutto con stampe geometriche e stampe non astratte; nel qual caso c'e' la possibilita' che l'effetto 'ingrandimento' non avvenga se ci sono colori scuri - tutti conosciamo l'effetto snellente del nero, no? Dunque cercate stampe a fiori grandi per ottenere il giusto effetto di allaragamento.

- GET THE RIGHT SILHOUETTE.
Once the large print is found, you need to have either a flowy, loose dress to look even bigger and shapeless- see the picture above - or make sure that one of the large printed flower shape is just by the waistline so to look likeyou have none - see the picture below.

- LA GIUSTA SILHOUETTE.
Una volta trovata la stampa grande, avrete bisogno o di un vestito dal taglio largo e scivolatissimo in modo da sembrare ancora piu' grandi e senza forme - come nella foto sopra- oppure assicuratevi che almeno una delle forme fiorate sia sul punto vita cosi' da far sembrare che non ne abbiate affatto - come nella foto sotto.

                     

- FROM HIGH-STREET TO RUNWAY.

The large print trend is everywhere, from the highstreet - the dress above is from  Mango- to runway designers -the two dress below are Diane Von Furstenberg.

- DALLA HIGH-STREET ALLA PASSERELLA.

Il trend della stampa grande e' dappertutto, dalle catene fast fashion - il vestito qui sopra e' di Mango - alle passerelle - i due vestiti sotto sono di Diane Von Furstenberg.

If you're feeling ispired and artistic you can even wear Van Gogh's style sunflowers dresses.

China Doll Boutique Summer Lookbook Styling

Yesterday I styled China Doll Boutique Sumer Lookbook :-) It was a styling marathon - more than 20 looks on the end and there was a last minute location change, from an open airi bluebell forest in Essex to The House Next Door five storey house in Shoreditch, as the weather was...well it's England you know?

I LOVED styling China Doll outifts again, after I did it for the first time back in November. The garments are femminine, fun and versatile and Nhuc, the Director, really gives me a lot of freedom when styling and accessorising :-) The team was great too. Fab photographer - Ailera Stone - who uses only natural light, great hair and make up - Leah Mabe - and models - Sophie, on her vere first shoot and Michela.

SS12 - Prints Prints Prints + Showroomprive' shopping tips

Anche se questo week end pasquale sara' funestato da un tempo non dei migliori, la bella stagione e' solo che inziata. Uno dei trend piu' presenti sulle passerelle S/S12. da New York a Parigi, passndo per Londra e Milano e' stato il tessuto stampato declinato in varie salse e sopratutto foulard, parsley e floreale.
