Seoul Fashion Week&Dan found his PERFECT (Korean) style!

As you know my daily read are tens of fashion articles and posts. Soemetimes you find an hidden gem ina post you wouldn't think of. In this case it's Kristopher Arden Houser post on the Italian Vogue
site on next season Seoul Fashion Week. I love K-pop and K- and opriental aesthetic in general but this time I truly fall in love with the S/S '11 beyondcloset  collection by Tae Yong that summarise the collection like this:

- Classic twist.
- Concept: boy has reformed his father's clothes into his own style.
- Theme: the boyhood .

I really find the school boy/college guy/little rascals theme and looks pretty fresh and fun. Very different from the macho/sexy/mediterranean men immage that is usually seen on Western fashion shows.

Defined but sleek silhouette.
Clothes flow along the body.
Just above the knees shorts
Straight cut trousers
Light shirts
Fitted blazers
Lace ups
What about the knee lenght socks??

Pantaloni a taglio dritto.
Camicie leggere.
Giacche fittate.
Scarpe stringate.

Opening look
Look di apertura

Closing look
Look di chiusura

Harry Potter like ;-)))

Thumbs up also for the fact that they used Koreans, Asian models ;-)

You'll see me in that fashion QUITE soon :-))

FIGHTING!!!

Perfection MV: Style Breakdown

I finally get my head around about analyzing and breaking down some K-pop style outfits. I've been following Korean pop music for nearly 2 years now and, apart from the dance and singing skills of the boy/girl bands, I've been amzsed since the beginning by the high standards of care and effort that these bands and their managers and stylists put in creating a concept and therefore a look for each song, MV or even  just a single performance.
The K-pop look often cosists of a mixture of designers clothes andespecially custom designed garments for the artists. The end result it is always a cool, sexy and edgy look that is really appealing for the eye and...entartaining..of course.
I wish that Italian and European pop stars would put the same thought in their looks.
I wrote something about one of the most popular K-pop girl band, the Wonder Girls, in one of my first posts and now I'm going to display my latest K-pop style finds.
The following pictures and style breakdown are from the boy band SuperJunior M music video Perfection.

Here the Youtube video if you are curious.
N.B. The song is the Chinese version but at least it's got English subs.

The basic look consists of a hat _ furry and not_ shirt+tailored blazer and XL bow around the neck.
The second look , (I love the Givenchy tees!) is less iconic and more informal with tee+blazer and skinny pants.

Wonder Girls - Wonder Style!!

Are you familiar with Lim, Sohee, Sun, Yenny and Yubin? Ever heard of the Wonder Girls?
K-pop icons and, it's the reason I'm writing about them on this bog, style mavericks? If not, here there is a brief up to date account about them.

  • First Koean group to make it in the American Billboard chart, with the 2009 single 'Nobody' (76th place).

  • Dreamgirls inspired look for 'Nobody'

  • Supporting act for the Jonas Brother's U.S. tour last summer.

  • Touring the U.S and Canada with their first world tour with the funky/retro song ' 2 Different Tears ' ( 2DT) , that came out in 3 langauges (English, Korean and Chinese).
80 denim&lace look for 2DT album cover and MV

Taking for granted that K-pop songs are catchy and well written, that Korean singers are true performers ( their singing and dancing skills are far better than the average Western pop sensation), the Wonder Girls, since their debut in Korea, in February 2007, have always stood out from the multitude of K-pop artists, and are successful abroad, because of their unique sense of fun, their smart, girly femininity, and, as they define it, their hip, funky style!

Their latest MV look (see below - picture and MV) has to be taken into consideration as the perfect mix of seasonal colours (turquoise, lime, sunshine, sea and navy blue ), garments (two colour shiny stockings, leggings, sheer rib, short sleeve tunics) and shoes (wedges, platforms and -they're back!- Doc. Martens).

And, last but not least, the girls take a really fresh and personal approach to the style of the '80,
both wearing tailored denim little dresses, tops, shorts and skirts, and a very exact mish-mash of pop colours.

From left to right: Yenny, Sun, Sohee, Yubin, Lim.

Check out Yenny stockings, Sun wedges&leggings, Sohee floral DM, Yubin tunic&pink DM and Lim platforms!

So, look out for the Wonder Girls on youtube and we'll keep following their music and looks.

For the time being...Wonder Girls FIGHTING!!

K-pop Super Junior - No Other「K-Pop July 2010」

A series of posts about K-pop (Korean pop) and fashion is coming. Just gathering some more ideas and material to show to the 'world' this fascinating, but yet, quite unknow alternative ( to Western taste and style) way of styling.
